A 10-year-old boy with a functional reading deficit (i.e. functional alexia) was successfully treated with hospital based escape/avoidance procedures. A multiple baseline design was used to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment. Generalization of treatment effects across individuals, settings and time was demonstrated. Extension of these procedures to other functional deficits is discussed.en_US
