A facility for producing well-focussed (~ 5 mm diameter) secondary beams of 6He, 7Be, 8Li, and similar ions has been implemented. The heart of the apparatus is a superconducting solenoid operating in an asymmetric lens configuration, with large solid angle (d[Omega] >= 100 msr) for the collection of reaction products. A beam of 15-MeV 8Li ions ([Delta]E 4 ions/s, produced via the 9Be(7Li, 8Li)8Be reaction, was scattered from targets of CH2, CD2, 9Be, 12C, 27l, and 197Au. Elastic scattering and (8Li, 7Li) reaction products are unambiguously identified. Preliminary results of measurements on the 2H(8Li, 9Be)n reaction, as well as the status of a project to upgrade the 8Li beam intensity to >= 1 x 106 ions/s, are reported. ft]*|Permanent address: Physics Department, Oberlin College, Oberlin, OH 44074, USA.en_US
