dc.description.abstract | Following the design of de Groot (1965) and Newell and Simon (1965), two Ss were asked to produce a total of six verbal chess protocols over a variety of conditions involving: middle and end game positions; real and artificial board positions; and differing time constraints. The analysis of these protocols yielded problem-solving episodes similar to those described by Newell and Simon. To account for these data, a modification of the Newell and Simon model was developed. The modified model gives a good account both of the data obtained in this study and also those described by Newell and Simon. | en_US |
