A specific and highly sensitive enzymatic method for the determination of cardiac glycosides has been developed. The method is based on the inhibition of the Na,K-ATPase in a microsomal preparation from beef cerebral cortex. The procedure, which involves simple laboratory techniques and equipment, has been applied to biological material. One to 20 ng of digoxin or digitoxin were analyzed in human plasma with a standard deviation of +/-7.5% to +/-2%.en_US
