Analysis of the infrared spectrum of polyvinyl chloride has permitted the identification, from the frequencies of the several C[bond]Cl stretching bands, of the chain conformations which are associated with particular chlorine pair configurations. These results have made it possible to establish that changes in conformational structure accompany certain changes in physical state of the polymer. Possible interpretations of the origins of these structural changes are considered.en_US
