Anaerobic Membrane BioReactor System
Balogh, Peter; Cholette, Michael; Klein, Krista; Rose, Michael; Yawson, Freda
AbstractThe sustainability of our limited freshwater resources is a global concern, and domestic wastewater (DWW) treatment systems are needed to relieve this concern. Our sponsors propose a new Anaerobic Membrane Bioreactor system that uses anaerobic digestion coupled with membranes to create a simple, inexpensive, self-sustaining solution. Our project is to design a reconfigurable laboratory-scale test platform to evaluate the feasibility of such a system. This platform will allow researchers to explore different membrane materials and geometries along with configurations that minimize fouling. It will also accurately monitor all processes and permit further research of both supplementary and biogas collection systems.
