The purpose of this work was to find out whether there was any pattern to variation in the lichen flora of red oak bark in the ecologically different sites described above. Because some lichens are conspicuous especially near roads, the roadside of the upland was considered a fourth type of site of possible ecological significance in the distribution of lichens and was included in this study as a distinct kind of habitat.en_US
