The purpose of this study was to determine: (1) the diversity of protozoa species in the soil; (2) the presence of particular species in a strictly defined habitat or the possibility of the use of certain soil protozoa as indicators of particular conditions; (3) the effect of soil moisture on the number and diversity of protozoa species; (4) the effect of pH on the appearance of species of soil protozoa; (5) the amount and type of organic matter in the soil as it affects the numbers and diversity of soil protozoa; (6) the effect of soil types on the presence of protozoa; (7) contrast of lake muds and beach sands protozoa species; (8) the nature of the protozoa populations at different depths of the soil; (9) the relationship between various species of protozoa; (10) the effect of fire on soil protozoa.en_US
