Maple River impoundment fish study.

Abstract
Conclusions-- 1) Day and night sampling with large seines and hoop nets provided an approximation of species composition in a reservoir environment such as the Maple River impoundment. 2) The most abundant species collected in numbers was the Yellow Perch (Perca flavescens). 3) Only 0.3% of all fish collected were Brown Trout. It appears doubtful that they are abundant in number. DNR and fishing reports indicate there are large brown trout in the reservoir although none were collected in this study. 4) Of the four species studied in respect to age classes, Northern Pike (Esox lucius), Yellow Perch (Perca flavescens) and Pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus) were stunted in growth; the Rock Bass (Ambloplites ruprestris) was not stunted. 5) Improvement in trout breeding conditions along with stocking and a reduction in the Yellow Perch population should help to sustain a more abundant population.Subjects
