After conducting a series of experiments involving the effects of tactile, visual, and chemical stimuli on the dispersion of milkweed aphids, all were eliminated except chemical stimuli. This evidence suggests that aphids may have an alarm peromone used to warn their conspecifics. Also ants, their symbionts, may also be able to detect this pheromone.en_US
