Resource distribution and ant foraging patterns.

Abstract
The influence of reward distribution on the foraging behavior of species A ants was examined. Sucrose solution was placed on the upper surface of bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum) pinnules in different quantities and distributions. Ants spent more time foraging on pinnules where they encountered sucrose solution. There was no difference among the treatments where sucrose solutions were present. Several factors are presented which may have limited the ability of the experiments to detect a difference among treatments. /BEHAVIOR/SUCROSE/PTERIDIUMSubjects
