dc.description.abstractThe Common Loon is on the Michigan Watch List, meaning that a close monitoring of the species is necessary. In response, the Michigan Loon Preservation Association (MLPA), formerly funded by the Nature Conservancy and now under the Michigan Non-Game Wildlife Fund, has been conducting a Loon Registry Program. The UMBS was asked to assist this program in the northern tip of the lower Peninsula. As representatives, we surveyed 8 lakes in Emmet and Cheboygan counties for the presence of loons and their offspring. We also visited 2 lakes in Alger County of the Upper Peninsula.en_US
