The effect of light intensity on algal community abundance and diversity was examined in a natural system. Shade cloth was used to create four different light intensities on a stream bottom. Ceramic tiles were used as artificial substrate. Tiles were collected after 13 days and analyzed by direct count for density, diversity and richness. Light intensity was found to have a direct effect on organism density.en_US
