To determine the effects of sudden pH change in algal flora of sedge microhabitat in Douglas Lake, Cheboygan County, Michigan, a bioassay was conducted on sedges in acidified lake water. Based on our results, pH levels 4.0 to 8.4 showed no significant difference in the survival percentages of Oedogonium, Achnanthes and Gomphonema. This may be due, in part, to the large buffering capacity of the lake and the sedges themselves and to temperature and light variations.en_US
