Therefore, in order to make changes in the way we live, we must start at the individual level. This can only be done through Environmental Education, which seeks to increase awareness of the ecological, socio-economic, and political problems we are encountering and will continue to encounter. Environmental Education is also aimed at increasing individuals' knowledge of the natural world and the ecological processes contained therein, as well as the impact humans have on these systems. Ideally, increases in awareness and knowledge will lead to changes in attitudes and behaviors. Moreover, Environmental Education focuses on encouraging individuals to attain the proper skills necessary to make these changes in behavior. In addition, Environmental Education promotes participation in local, national, and global affairs as a means to more sustainable living.en_US
