A survey of the algal flora in ground water springs and seeps in Northern Lower Michigan.

Abstract

The objective of my study was to gain an understanding of the algal flora present in ground water springs and seeps in Northern lower Michigan. I found that they were dominated by blue-greens and non-motile diatom genera including Achnanthidium lanceolata, and A. minutissima. Unfortunately during the study I discovered through water chemistry data that only two half of my sites were indicative of ground water springs. Also, the data on blue-green dominance is very likely inaccurate due to errors in estimation of biomass per cell between diatoms and blue-greens during counting procedure.
