Lost Lake, a solution lake in northern Michigan, was sampled both to determine its trophic status and confirm its geologic origin. Chemical and physical parameters were measured and biological samples were taken and examined in the laboratory. The lake was found to be biogenicly meromictic. As a result, the mixolimnion is largely oligotrophic, and the nutrients are trapped within the monimolimnion . Despite accumulation of nutrients in the monimolimnion, the overall system is oligotrophic.en_US
