Feasibility of ambient ozone to be used as a proxy for ozone flux.

Abstract

This study was performed to determine if it is feasible to use ambient ozone measurements as a proxy to determine an approximation for ozone flux. The ambient ozone and ozone flux used in the study was measured over the period of 2002-2005. This data was collected at the PROPHET site located at the University of Michigan Biological Station at a mixed hardwood forest in northern lower Michigan. Data was compared by separating the data into bins based off yearly, monthly, weekly, and by the air flow regime.. The correlation was determined by graphing the flux vs. ambient data and performing an orthogonal regression to determine correlation coefficient from which the statistical significance was determined. The data for yearly and monthly comparison proved to provide no significant correlation. However the air flow data determined five periods of correlation but upon further look proved to be just coincidental.
