Abstract
The beech-maple area on Bois Blanc Island is located on the top of an extremely steep slope and the area cannot be seen from the road. The beech-maple proper contains a considerable number of large trees and the sizes of these trees have been indicated on the beech-maple plot data. It was also noted that the canopy cover was 100 percent. This probably accounts for the lack of a shrub layer. The ground layer of vegetation was found to be very sparse. Plants were collected in the beech-maple proper and also on the edge of the cliff and the slope of the cliff to the road. The areas of collection and the location of our beech-maple data plot are indicated on the accompanying map.Types
