Abstract
To monitor the effects of civilization on the Douglas Lake biotope the present status of the lake biocoenosis must be recorded. Along with this type of study the previous history of the lake is essential because it is known that the surrounding terrestrial environment underwent a massive disturbance due to the logging of the forest during the latter portion of the 19th century. It is unknown what effect the removal of most of the surrounding vegetation had on the unseen biota of Douglas Lake (i.e. the algae and other microscopic life forms).Types
