The problem considered here is the determination of the forces and fluid motions due to waves coming in contact with a ship or a body that is either fixed or moving on an infinite sea. The approach employed is direct three-dimensional calculation of the fluid motion treated as an initial value problem in time. The work is referred to as taking place in the time domain to contrast it with more traditional frequency-domain calculations.en_US
