dc.description | Description: Immediately outside and slightly south of the Southeast Gate are three standing architectural elements that could indicate the presence of a church in this area. No traces of walls are visible, but the locations of the three known extramural churches argue in favor of this interpretation, as do the high concentration of Christian inscriptions and graffiti on the City Wall to both the north and south of the gate. ** The first element is a white marble doorjamb located 15m directly east of the Southeast Gate. Its south-facing side is smoothed, but the surface was later picked. It is nearly centered on the axis of the gate itself, as if it lay in the middle of the road through the gate. | en_US |
