dc.description | Description: Immediately outside and slightly south of the Southeast Gate are three standing architectural elements that could indicate the presence of a church in this area. No traces of walls are visible, but the locations of the three known extramural churches argue in favor of this interpretation, as do the high concentration of Christian inscriptions and graffiti on the City Wall to both the north and south of the gate. ** The third standing architectural element, about 11 m southeast of spiral-fluted column, is a monolithic mottled gray marble column. ** Also in the area are the lower section of fluted column (H: 2.24m) in field wall to E of SE gate; a fluted capital (H: 0.37m Lower Diam: 0.36m; 2 more column fragments; 1 window mullion fragment ** These may also be associated with "possible church" D083 and in situ column fragments D163. | en_US |
