Description
Local Name: Pazar Gedii, Dedeler
Local Informant: İsmail Dinç
Local Information: At northeast corner of settlement plateau, the underside of the cliff has been quarried away for chalk and sugar yeast (İsmail) but within the quarried area are remains of what may have been a tunnell running E-W along the cliff face, perhaps an aqueduct channel.
Latitude: 37.45.44.270
Longitude: 28.40.41.320
Elevation: 621.562m
Dimensions: Approximately 40 by 40m ** Room wall: W: 0.70m-0.75m ** Circuit wall: W: 1.50m; p. H: 0.72m
Description: Small fortified settlement outside of Dedeler occupying low hill top. Many remains of low unmortared rubble walls. Cistern (C071) at NW corner of site. 6 or 7 small square rooms visible moving SW from cistern, heavy tile scatter in and around the rooms. W and SW of defined rooms is a large wall of roughly hewn blocks, well preserved in several stretches; it curves along S end of site and presumably runs into E cliff face but cannot be traced; very thick, presumably fortification wall. Heavy tile scatter and some pottery at site (including 1 glazed Ottoman sherd) over area where walls are located. Between end of defined settlement and circuit wall is a large empty space; wall remains, and tile and ceramic scatter completely end here. At rough center of plateau is a strech of upright stone slabs, either natural bedrock outcropping or part of strange wall construction.
Finds: No systematic pottery collection.
