Description: Three parallel vaulted chambers connected by arched doorways. All walls of the tomb are built of nicely cut and coursed petit aparail masonry, some coarser stones used as well. Low walls, about 1 m high, create burial spaces, 4 in the south chamber, 2 in the central and 1 in the north; some of these walls are built of coarse stone masonry, others appear to be solid marble slabs, perhaps recut from sarcophagus chests. Tomb entered by stairs down into the north chamber, from a superstructure, now lost. South corners in South chamber and north corners in central chamber are built in at 90 degree angles. North and central chambers are well preserved and host a colony of bats; part of roof of south chamber has collapsed. Cleared by Kenan Erim in 1963, Notebook 22, "West necropolis Tomb 1"; finds include many inventoried lamps (in particular a very large ARS lamp 63-360), found especially at the base of the stairs, in area between the tombs, and within tombs themselves. All were tombs disturbed, many with bones still inside, and bones were also found on the floor
