Description: A small Christian structure was located at Kavaklıdere, about 5 km west of Aphrodisias, where two non-joining fragments of a marble screen panel decorated with a cross were found (A033). At the crest of the bank, just west of the confluence of the Kavaklıdere and the Morsynus river, there are traces of mortared rubble walls oriented north–south and east–west. The best-preserved section, an east–west wall at the southern edge of the site, was 0.80 m thick and 6.20 m long. To the south of this wall, a small marble volute was found, perhaps from a capital, and many tile and pottery fragments were seen across the site. The above was seen in 2005; when the site was revisited in 2008, however, the standing remains had been leveled and the site turned into an agricultural field. Farmers present at the time pointed out a second field approximately 300 m to the east, where they said a ruin had also stood until recently, when it was leveled and the stones thrown down into the river. In a pile of fieldstones collected to one side of this second field were fragments of marble columns and a block with a plain profile. The character of the site is unclear, but the cross panel could have belonged to one of these structures.en_US
