Description: Three large fragments of the same columnar sarcophagus with plain columns, male and female figures, and socle molding consisting of a fascia over a roughly worked torus. The identity of the figures is uncertain; the male figures with bare legs and feet suggest a heroized deceased, an athlete, or possibly Herakles holding a club. The female figures could represent Muses, mourners, or family members. ** (1.) Bottom right corner preserving small parts of right short side and back. Right short side preserves corner column, the lower legs of a male figure with bare legs and feet, and an unfinished lump of marble remaining between the legs. Base of another column is visible. Back is plain. ** (2.) Bottom left corner, preserving entire left short side and small part of front. Left short side preserves three column bases and small portions of the shafts, with the lower drapery and feet of two female figures between them. Front preserves base of a corner column, one foot and lower drapery of a female figure wearing a chiton and himation, and two lines of inscription on the socle molding. ** (3.) Front right corner preserving right short side and part of front. Front right corner of sarcophagus appears to join with Fragment 1. Right short side preserves one and a half column bases and the lower drapery and feet of a female figure. Long side preserves two column bases, the lower legs of a male figure with bare legs and feet holding an unclear object, and one foot of another male figure. Base of the front preserves one line of inscribed epitaph (RS Inscriptions 12): "[- - A copy] of this inscription [was deposited in the registry under the stephanephorate of - -] son of Menandros [in the month - -].
