dc.description.abstract | James Alger interviewed by John Wells, October 26, 2010: Audio recording and transcript. Alger served in the U.S. Coast Guard from 1952 to 1956. From 1954 to 1956 he was at the Charlevoix Lifeboat Station and transferred people and goods to and from South Fox Island as part of his responsibilities. The interview discusses his work during these years, including recollections of South Fox Island and Allen Cain, the last lightkeeper of the station, and his wife [Anna].
