Abstract: A new amino acid has been discovered in uncombined form in extracts of the fruiting bodies of the mushroom, Phyllotopsis nidulans. Chemical and spectroscopic data support formulation of the structure as -3-(3-carboxyfuran-4-yl)alanine.
