The pdf file contains the full book including all images as attachments. To access the attachments, please use a full pdf reader (such as Adobe Acrobat). There are numerous .kmz and .skp files in this book. As of 2018, the .kmz files appeared to load correctly (directly) into Google Earth. However, as the base for Google Earth might change in subsequent software releases, the .kmz files might become misaligned. Thus, skp files are also included so that the reader may upload them into Sketchup and save them from there in a more current kmz format. When loading .kmz files for buildings into Google Earth, please turn off the default loadset for 3D buildings in Google Earth so that the default buildings don't obscure the ones being loaded in. The zipped file here may or may not be useful.en_US
The 3D Atlas of Ann Arbor is an ongoing project begun in 2001. The early development centered on the creation of base maps/surfaces formed from buildings, terrain, streets, photographic textures, and so forth. There is abundant reference to this development in Solstice: An Electronic Journal of Geography and Mathematics (http://www.imagenet.org/). As the base surfaces emerged, so too did applications. Most of these centered on planning or on environmental and emergency management. Numerous individual have contributed to the evolution of the Atlas that attempts to trace the intellectual path from GIS map to virtual reality models of Ann Arbor.en_US
