It is shown by means of a semiquantitative nonlinear analysis that elementary interaction between an inverted electron spin system and a resonant cavity does not give rise to the pulsed mode of operation of the ruby maser oscillator. It is suggested that the additional nonlinearity necessary for the existence of such a mode resides in the ``distant ENDOR,'' the interaction between the chromium electrons and the Al27 nuclei.en_US
