People often say, "I'd give my right arm to see that happen." South African Albie Sachs's efforts to end apartheid in his homeland cost him his right arm in an assassination attempt. But today he is a justice of his country's supreme court. Sachs was on campus as a visiting fellow of the Institute for the Humanities.

Burn Center is studying flammability of children's clothing

Muscles respond to walking even when spinal cord is severed
 
With treadmill therapy, people with severe spinal cord injury can generate muscle activity independent of brain signals, finds Dan Ferris, assistant professor of kinesiology.

Talking About Words: "Prexy" Angell and "Hurry Up" Yost
This month, Richard Bailey reviews interesting U-M nicknames. Among the most notable was "Hurry Up," the sobriquet of coach Fielding H. Yost (above). Even his football squad had a nickname—the "Point-A-Minute" team.
