Research Overview:
Data was collected from participants of the Early Life Exposures in Mexico to ENvironmental Toxicants (ELEMENT) study, which consists of three sequentially-enrolled birth cohorts of pregnant women. Research protocols of this study were approved by the Institutional Review Board at University of Michigan and the Mexico National Institute of Public Health. We obtained informed consent from study participants prior to enrollment.
Methodology:
Data on food insecurity at the household level was gathered in-person (2015 to 2019) and by telephone (2020-2021) using the Latin American and Caribbean Food Security Scale. Other variables includes: socioeconomic status, Schooling, access to social security, marital status, identification of the head of the household, occupation, food consumption perception children under 18 years of age. Database was cleaned and the distribution and summary statistics for all variables were examined. Fisher's exact test was used to assess differences in food insecurity. Fixed and random-effects ordinal logistic regression models of food insecurity were fitted. Stata version 14 statistical software was used to work with the database.
Date Coverage: 2015-03-03 to 2021-06-24 (Data collection)
Instrument and/or Software specifications: Stata version 14
