Methodology
  • MV0811-14JC contains 10 sections. The first 8 sections were scanned at 200-µm resolution on an ITRAX X-ray fluorescence (XRF) core scanner (Cox Analytical Instruments) at the Large Lakes Observatory, University of Minnesota, Duluth. The scanner is equipped with a Cr X-ray tube, and operated with an 8-second scan time at 30 kV and 15 mA. Section 1-3 were scanned in 2010 (data reevaluated in 2012 using the updated peak fitting algorithm), and Section 4-8 were scanned in 2014, with more elements evaluated (see the README file).
Description
  • This dataset includes scanning X-ray fluorescence (XRF) data for the core MV0811-14JC (34.2818°N 120.0360°W, water depth: 582 m), which was collected by the research vessel R/V Melville off Southern California in 2008.11. The research is funded by NSF OCE-1304327.

Overview: This dataset includes scanning X-ray fluorescence (XRF) data for MV0811-14JC.

Methods: MV0811-14JC contains 10 sections. Section 1-3 were scanned in 2010 and XRF spectra were re-evaluated in 2012 using the updated peak fitting algorithm to include more elements, and Section 4-8 were scanned in 2014, with more elements evaluated (see variables).
