README FILE FOR “Dogon Tebul Ure 2022 Audio Recordings“
Background:
These audio files are recordings of people speaking the Tebul Ure language, which is part of the Dogon language family. It is spoken in a cluster of villages located at the top of the eastern cliffs of the Dogon (Bandiagara) plateau in east central Mali, and in more recently established satellite villages at the base of the cliffs adjoining the otherwise Jamsay-speaking Bamba village cluster. The recordings suffer from technical problems. Project manager Djiguiba had to record with a smartphone in .aac format. These recordings were later converted to .wav for analysis and archiving. An additional problem is that some of the male speakers tended to mumble. Fortunately, Oumar Guindo was present for the transcription and translation. He had participated in the recordings, knew the other speakers well, and was able to understand and repeat what they had said.
The inventory of recordings is as follows:
2022 texts, recorded by Djiguiba in Sevare, December 2022
A = Ali Guindo (2022-01, -02, and -04)
A = Yatiguem Guindo (female) (2022-03)

As of this writing (mid 2018), Jeffrey Heath plans to complete the reference grammar of this language (currently in draft form) in 2019 or 2020. Transcriptions and translations of some or all of these recordings will be included at the end of grammar.
If Jeffrey Heath is unable to complete and disseminate these transcriptions and translations by the end of 2020, he grants permission to others to transcribe, translate, or otherwise analyse these recordings.
