Work Description

This contains one multi-page xlsx spreadsheet, plus copies of each page as a separate csv file.

There are separate pages for nouns, adjectives, numerals, verbs, places, and "other" (e.g. adverbs, grammatical morphemes).

For all except verbs and places, separate columns are given for four geographically separate villages (all part of Daramandougou) with slightly different dialects: Jinejan, Masaso, Flaso, Biton. A fifth column "Tiefo-D" is a somewhat artificial compromise form, used mainly for finding and alphabetical sorting.

For nouns and adjectives, plurals follow the singulars after \\. Parenthesized (e) with accent indicates the tonal form of the "article" preceding the noun.

For nouns, in addition to English and French glosses, there are various columns with codes for various phonological and grammatical categories (tones, syllabic shape, etc.) that were mainly used in writing the grammar, and which can be disregarded by most users.

Natural species are identified in columns on the far right in the nouns page.

For verbs, the key forms are in the Pfv (perfective), base, and Ipfv (imperfective) columns. These are the three forms that each verb takes, as explained in the grammar. A column on the far left encodes which of the three, if any, are identical (e.g. P vs B=I means that base and Ipfv are the same). The dialects are shown in additional columns (Ji = Jinejan, etc.).

The work also contains a .csv-only sheet with Tiefo-D vocabulary gleaned from K. Winkelmann's German-language dissertation, Die Sprache der Cefo von Daramandugu (Burkina Faso). I have copied KW's transcription and German gloss, and have added translations in English and French. For the few items where KW also gives Tiefo-N cognates from Nyafogo or Numudara village, or when KW specified a particular Daramandougou dialect, these forms are in separate columns on the far right.
