- The H2O concentration and H2O/Ce ratio in olivine-hosted melt inclusions are high (H2O up to 1410 ppm; H2O/Ce up to 77) in lunar sample 74220 but lower (H2O up to 430 ppm; H2O/Ce up to 9.4) in all other lunar samples studied before this work. This difference is absent for other volatiles (F, S, and Cl) in melt inclusions in 74220 and other lunar samples. Because H2O (or H) is a critical volatile component with significant ramifications on the origin and evolution of the Moon, it is important to understand what causes such a large gap in H2O/Ce ratio between 74220 and other lunar samples. Two explanations have been advanced. One is that volcanic product in sample 74220 has the highest cooling rate and thus best preserved H2O in melt inclusions compared to melt inclusions in other samples. The other explanation is that sample 74220 is a localized heterogeneity enriched in some volatiles. To distinguish the two possibilities, here we present new data from three rapidly cooled lunar samples: olivine-hosted glassy melt inclusions (OHMIs) in 74220 regolith and 79135 regolith breccia, and pyroxene-hosted glassy melt inclusions (PHMIs) in 15597 pigeonite basalts. If the gap is due to the difference in cooling rates, samples with cooling rates between 74220 and other studied lunar samples should have preserved intermediate H2O concentrations and H2O/Ce ratios. Our results show that melt inclusions in 79135 and 15597 contain high H2O concentrations (up to 969 ppm in 79135 and up to 793 ppm in 15597) and high H2O/Ce ratios (up to 21 in 79135 and up to 13 in 15997). Combined with literature data, we confirm that H2O/Ce ratios of different lunar samples are positively correlated to the cooling rates and independent of the type of mare basalts. Our work bridges the big gap in H2O/Ce ratio among 74220 and other lunar samples. We hence reinforce the interpretation that the lunar sample with the highest cooling rate best represents pre-eruptive volatiles in lunar basalts due to the least degassing. H2O, F, P, S and Cl concentrations in the lunar primitive mantle are also estimated in this work. and *** 2024-03-19: In addition to the files in the previous version, this updated deposit contains more data files as the supplementary files of the paper. - It is commonly thought that volcanic glass only records volatile loss during the eruptions in the Moon. However, our recent work shows that Na, K and Cu (moderately volatile elements) in lunar 74220 orange glass beads are enriched near the bead surfaces and depleted in the bead interiors, forming an overall “U-shaped” profile. The “U-shaped” profile means that rather than being “lost” into space, Na, K and Cu were “gained” into the volcanic glass during the eruption, which is contrary to the “volatile loss” story. Three different instruments (EMP, SIMS and LA-ICP-MS) were used to verify the discovery. We propose that such U-shaped Na, K and Cu profiles were formed by initial outgassing and subsequent in-gassing of Na, K and Cu when the beads were flying from the vent onto the surface through the cooling volcanic gas plume. Hence, in-gassing and the formation of surface coatings are two processes that are genetically linked during the pyroclastic eruption and evolution of the gas cloud. To quantify the processes that formed the U-shaped profiles, we developed a diffusion and surface-equilibrium model using available literature data on Na and Cu diffusivity in basaltic melts. The model reproduced U-shaped Na and Cu concentration profiles with outgassing at high temperature and subsequent in-gassing as beads cooled. By fitting the measured Na and Cu profiles, we found that the cooling time scales of individual orange glass beads range from 48 to 179 s. This is the first time that both outgassing and in-gassing were modeled and the cooling time scales of individual 74220 volcanic orange glass beads were estimated. The discovery of the U-shaped profiles of moderately volatile elements inside volcanic beads provides significant constraints on partial pressures of relevant volcanic gas species in the eruption plume.

- This data set supports a study that seeks to evaluate global fossil fuel CO2 emissions inventory representations of CO2 emissions of five cities in the Middle East, and assess the ability of satellite observations to inform this evaluation. Improved observational understanding of urban CO2 emissions, a large and dynamic global source of fossil CO2, can provide essential insights for both carbon cycle science and mitigation decision making. In this study we compare three distinct global CO2 emissions inventory representations of urban CO2 emissions for five Middle Eastern cities (Riyadh, Mecca, Tabuk, Jeddah, and Baghdad) and use independent satellite observations from the Orbiting Carbon Observatory-2 (OCO-2) satellite to evaluate the inventory representations of afternoon emissions. We use the column version of the Stochastic Time-Inverted Lagrangian Transport (X-STILT) model to account for atmospheric transport and link emissions to observations. We compare XCO2 simulations with observations to determine optimum inventory scaling factors. Applying these factors, we find that the average summed emissions for all five cities are 100 MtC/y (50-151, 90% CI), which is 2.0 (1.0, 3.0) times the average prior inventory magnitudes. The total adjustment of the emissions of these cities comes out to ~7% (0%, 14%) of total Middle Eastern emissions (~700 MtC/y). We find our results to be insensitive to the prior spatial distributions in inventories of the cities’ emissions, facilitating robust quantitative assessments of urban emission magnitudes without accurate high-resolution gridded inventories. and There are three files included in this data set, and all data are in tab-delimited form. The first file, xco2_lat.zip, contains 26 separate text files, each named by the city and date of the corresponding OCO-2 overpass. Each of these 26 files includes overpass-specific data, with modeled and observed XCO2 values binned by 0.1 degree of latitude. The file overpass_scaling_factors.txt provides the scaling factors for each overpass used in this study. The file city_estimates.txt provides the scaled emissions estimates for each city (or sum of cities) as well as the lower and upper bounds of the 90% confidence intervals, for each inventory.

- Biomass burning produces smoke aerosols that are emitted into the atmosphere. Some smoke constituents, notably black carbon (BC), are highly effective light-absorbing aerosols (LAA). Emitted LAA can be transported to high albedo regions like the Greenland Ice Sheet (GrIS) and affect local snowmelt. In the summer, the effects of LAA in Greenland are uncertain. To explore how LAA affect GrIS snowmelt and surface energy flux in the summer, we conduct idealized global climate model simulations with perturbed aerosol amounts and properties in the GrIS snow and overlying atmosphere. The in-snow and atmospheric aerosol burdens we select range from background values measured on the GrIS to unrealistically high values. This helps us explore the linearity of snowmelt response and to achieve high signal-to-noise ratios. With LAA operating only in the atmosphere, we find no significant change in snowmelt due to the competing effects of surface dimming and tropospheric warming. Regardless of atmospheric LAA presence, in-snow BC-equivalent mixing ratios greater than ~60 ng/g produce statistically significant snowmelt increases over much of the GrIS. We find that net surface energy flux changes correspond well to snowmelt changes for all cases. The dominant component of surface energy flux change is solar energy flux, but sensible and longwave energy fluxes respond to temperature changes. Atmospheric LAA dampen the magnitude of solar radiation absorbed by in-snow LAA when both varieties are simulated. In general, the significant melt and surface energy flux changes we simulate occur with LAA quantities that have never been recorded in Greenland.

- Greenhouse gas (GHG) additions to Earth’s atmosphere initially reduce global outgoing longwave radiation (OLR), thereby warming the planet. In select environments with temperature inversions, however, increased GHG concentrations can actually increase local OLR. Negative top-of-atmosphere and effective radiative forcing (ERF) from this situation give the impression that local surface temperatures could cool in response to GHG increases. Here we consider an extreme scenario in which GHG concentrations are increased only within the warmest layers of winter near-surface inversions of the Arctic and Antarctic. We find, using a fully coupled Earth system model, that the underlying surface warms despite the GHG addition exerting negative ERF and cooling the troposphere in the vicinity of the GHG increase. This unique radiative forcing and thermal response is facilitated by the high stability of the polar winter atmosphere, which inhibits thermal mixing and amplifies the impact of surface radiative forcing on surface temperature. These findings also suggest that strategies to exploit negative ERF via injections of short-lived GHGs into inversion layers would likely be unsuccessful in cooling the planetary surface. and Note: A revised data description file was added to this work on April 11, 2018 containing additional information about the data set than was provided in the original description. - This data was collected and processed as part of ongoing research to characterize waterway infrastructure performance in the Great Lakes. These dataset enable researchers to evaluate both travel time and vessel carrying capacity in the waterway., I assembled AIS data from the MarineCadastre website for UTM Zones 15-18 for the years 2015-2017 available in csv format. I combined files for Navigation Seasons, defined as March to January and clipped data for a set of predefined features using a python code (AIS Data Processor.ipynb). The code writes the appended and clipped files to csv for a single Navigation Year. The written files are submitted here: Trimmed_NY2015_new.csv (n=13,228,824); Trimmed_NY2016_new.csv (n=18,782,779); Trimmed_NY2017_new.csv (n=16,816,603), Data fusion of AIS and LPMS used the following algorithm for a subset of 30 vessels on the waterway. - We conducted a mixed-methods study to understand how financial incentive programs impact transitions to cover cropping in Michigan. Michigan farms span a wide range of soil types, climate conditions, and cropping systems that create opportunities for cover crop adoption in the state. We tested the relationship between Environmental Quality Incentives Program (EQIP) payments for cover crops and cover crop adoption between 2008-2019, as measured by remote sensing. Panel fixed effects regressions showed that EQIP increased winter cover crop presence. Every EQIP dollar for cover crops was associated with a 0.01 hectare increase in winter cover, while each hectare enrolled in an EQIP contract for cover crops was associated with a 0.86 – 0.93 hectare increase in winter cover.

- Three sensitivity analyses were performed. First, a second matching step was performed in which two controls were selected for each case, where possible using a nearest neighbor and caliper metric. Controls needed to have propensity scores within 0.1 of the case to be selected. Thirty-eight of the 39 cases had at least one control using this method and for 36 cases two controls could be selected. The average difference between case and control propensity adjuvant RT was 0.008 (range 0.00003-0.095). A second sensitivity analysis was performed to guard against immortal time bias. In order to mitigate the possibility of this effect, cases known not to have undergone adjuvant RT have been screened for suitable follow-up without a recurrence (local or regional recurrence, metastatic failure, and/or death) to ensure that if adjuvant RT had been prescribed as part of the multi-modality treatment regimen, that it would have been initiated. Three months was selected as the mandatory follow-up time. One to one matching was carried out and all 39 cases were matched to a control. A third sensitivity analysis was performed to account for stage migration seen in control patients that presented to the University of Michigan with more advanced disease. Patients that underwent adjuvant radiation were matched one to one with control group patients who did not receive adjuvant radiation, and who had the same stage at diagnosis as compared to stage at University of Michigan presentation.

- The specific focus of the project was radiative shocks, which develop when shock waves become so fast and hot that the radiation from the shocked matter dominates the energy transport. This in turn leads to changes in the shock structure. Radiative shocks are challenging to simulate, as they include phenomena on a range of spatial and temporal scales and involve two types of nonlinear physics Ð- hydrodynamics and radiation transport. Even so, the range of physics involved is narrow enough that one can hope to model all of it with sufficient fidelity to reproduce the data. CRASH was focused on developing predictions for a sequence of experiments performed in Project Year 5, in which those experiments represented an extrapolation from all previously available data. The previous data involved driving radiative shocks within cylindrical structures, and mainly straight tubes. The Year 5 experiments drove a radiative shock down an elliptical tube. Our long-stated goal for these predictions was that the distribution of predicted values would overlap significantly with the observed distribution. We achieved this goal. Achieving our goal required the conversion of an established space-weather code to model radiative shocks at high energy density. To obtain reasonable fidelity with respect to the experimental data required implementing a laser absorption package, in addition to a hydrodynamic solver, electron physics and heat conduction, and multigroup diffusive radiation transport. The dedicated experiments provided evidence of experimental variability, validation of the calculation of initial shock wave behavior, and validation data at many observation times using cylindrical shock tubes. Following this were preparatory experiments for and finally the execution of the Year 5 experiments. The predictive science research included a wide range of sensitivity studies to determine which variables were important and a sequence of predictive studies focused on specific issues and sets of data. This led ultimately to predictions of shock location for the Year 5 experiments. A conclusion from this project is that the serious quantification of uncertainty in simulations is a dauntingly difficult and expensive prospect. Pre-existing codes are unlikely to have been built with attention to what will be needed to quantify their uncertainty. Pre-existing experimental results are even more unlikely to include a sufficiently detailed analysis of the experimental uncertainties. And this will also be true of most experiments that might be used to validate components of the simulation. The analysis of uncertainty in any one of the physical processes (and related physical constants) is a major effort. And addressing model form uncertainty is an even bigger challenge, that may in principle require development of complete, alternative simulation models. We made a start at all of this, and completed almost none of it. But by the end of a project, we finally had all the pieces in place and working that would have enabled a range of important studies and advances in relatively near-term years. But the sponsor terminated the program after only five years. For most of the participants this was a relatively minor development, although for a few of them it proved to be enormously disruptive. We believe that the cost to the nation, in work that was ready be done but now will not be, was much much larger. The sketch of the target was produced using a drawing program based on the experimental dimensions. The annotated photograph of the target was obtained using a visible-light camera. The colorized radiographs were obtained via backilit-pinhole radiography of a radiative shock propagating down an elliptical tube, at 26 ns after the lasers driving the shock tube fired. The graph showing lines and circles was produced by running many computer models, analyzing their statistical distribution, and measuring actual shock positions in the experiment.

- This dataset was generated for our work: "Complex motion of steerable vesicular robots filled with active colloidal rods". In this project, we used Brownian molecular dynamics simulations to study the rich dynamical behavior of rigid kinked vesicles that contain self-propelling rod-shaped particles. We identified that kinks in the vesicle membrane bias the emergent clustering and alignment of the active agents. Based on the system's geometrical and material properties, we were able to design multiple types of directed motion of the vesicle superstructure. This dataset includes simulation data for two-dimensional systems of self-propelling rod particles confined by teardrop-shaped coarse-grained vesicles. The trajectory of each simulation is saved in a GSD format file with parameter metadata in a JSON file. Due to the large number of replicas of each pair of parameters, simulation data were grouped into 5 different folders. Collective quantitative analysis for simulated trajectories was performed with Jupyter Notebook. and Workspaces_simulations.zip contains all the workspaces of simulations Each folder has subfolders called 'dimer' and 'trimer' depending on the length of the propelling rod particles used in the simulation. (Except for the folder 'number-density_16' which has only 'dimer') In the subfolders, we include the Python scripts used in this work for simulating and trajectory analysis for individual trajectory data. The parameter space of each folder is noted in init.py. Analysis_jupyter_notebooks.zip includes Jupyter notebooks that can reproduce the collective analysis done for this work.

- Urban agriculture (UA) is a widely proposed strategy to make cities and urban food systems more sustainable. However, its carbon footprint remains understudied. In fact, the few existing studies suggest that UA may be worse for the climate than conventional agriculture. This is the first large-scale study to resolve this uncertainty across cities and types of UA, employing citizen science at 73 UA sites in Europe and the United States to compare UA products to food from conventional farms. The results reveal that food from UA is six times as carbon intensive as conventional agriculture (420g vs 70g CO2 equivalent per serving). Some UA crops (e.g., tomatoes) and sites (e.g., 25% of individually-managed gardens), however, outperform conventional agriculture. These exceptions suggest that UA practitioners can reduce their climate impacts by cultivating crops that are typically greenhouse grown or air-freighted, maintaining UA sites for many years, and leveraging waste as inputs.This database contains the necessary reference material to trace the path of our analysis from raw garden data to carbon footprint and nutrient results. - Scientists often try to reproduce observations with a model, helping them explain the observations by adjusting known and controllable features within the model. They then use a large variety of metrics for assessing the ability of a model to reproduce the observations. One such metric is called the relative operating characteristic (ROC) curve, a tool that assesses a model’s ability to predict events within the data. The ROC curve is made by sliding the event-definition threshold in the model output, calculating certain metrics and making a graph of the results. Here, a new model assessment tool is introduced, called the sliding threshold of observation for numeric evaluation (STONE) curve. The STONE curve is created by sliding the event definition threshold not only for the model output but also simultaneously for the data values. This is applicable when the model output is trying to reproduce the exact values of a particular data set. - Micron-scale robots require systems that can morph into arbitrary target configurations controlled by external agents such as heat, light, electricity, and chemical environment. Achieving this behavior using conventional approaches is challenging because the available materials at these scales are not programmable like their macroscopic counterparts. To overcome this challenge, we propose a design strategy to make a robotic machine that is both programmable and compatible with colloidal-scale physics. Our strategy uses motors in the form of active colloidal particles that constantly propel forward. We sequence these motors end-to-end in a closed chain forming a two-dimensional loop that folds under its mechanical constraints. We encode the target loop shape and its motion by regulating six design parameters, each scale-invariant and achievable at the colloidal scale. - Earth’s upper atmosphere above 500 km altitude constantly loses charged particles to outer space in a process called ionospheric outflow. This outflow is important for the dynamics of the near-Earth space environment (“space weather”) yet is poorly understood on a global scale. A mission is needed to observe the global patterns of ionospheric outflow and its relation to space weather driving conditions. The science objectives of such a mission could include not only the reconstruction of global outflow patterns but also the relation of these patterns to geomagnetic activity and the spatial and temporal nature of outflow composition. A study is presented to show that four well-placed spacecraft would be sufficient for reasonable outflow reconstructions.

- The survey data used in this project is from two larger overarching projects titled the Rice Preferences Study and the Black Student Success Study. The Rice Preferences Study began with a sample of 661 entering undergraduates matriculating in August of 2016. This was 66.7% of the entering class, randomly selected. Of that sample, 553 completed the study with an 83.7% response rate. Prior to coming to campus in fall 2016 Rice students were given a battery of incentivized preference measures including risk aversion, loss aversion, altruism, in-group favoritism, time discounting, competitiveness, and so on. Over the subsequent four years that group was tested with new and repeated measures, in two to four tests per year. As a basis for comparison, each year a smaller sample (between 112 And 148) was drawn from incoming classes and tested with the same instruments. The remaining students from the Class of 2020 who had never been tested were invited in March 2020 to complete the initial study (259 of 376 completed the study). In March 2020, as Rice University closed, the team joined together to build a COVID module for the long-term Rice panel, as well as the other members of the Class of 2020. A total of 670 participated in this wave (67.1% of the graduating class). The Black Student Success Study recruited samples from PVAMU and TAMU in 2017 and again in 2019. This study aimed at understanding the effects of stereotype threat on Black student success in two different university environments in Texas: PVAMU, a historically Black university with about 9,000 students, 65% female, and 83% Black; and TAMU, a large state university with about 70,000 students, 47% female and 3.7% Black. That study was ongoing in 2020 when COVID struck. A total of 880 subjects responded to the initial survey out of a total of 3,709 who were contacted. Black subjects were over-sampled at TAMU, and constituted 37% of the TAMU sample. Respondents completed a one-hour survey that included measures of identity, non-cognitive skills, stereotype-threat vulnerability, and controls for economic preferences (survey measures) and family background. They were paid $20 for completing the study. In March 2020 additional funding was awarded through NSF to expand and follow the Rice, TAMU and PVAMU panels, focusing on the impact of COVID-19.

We used these data to develop a data-driven model that predicts plasma sheet electron flux from upstream solar wind variations. The model output data are included in this work, along with code for analyzing the model performance and producing figures used in the related publication. and Data files are included in hdf5 and Python pickle binary formats; scripts included are set up for use of Python 3 to access and process the pickle binary format data.

The solar wind composition within this publication are the first within the inner heliosphere. This paper describes the data and its processing from raw measurements (e.g., the data contained within this archive) to derived composition data products, and examines these composition data products about an interplanetary shock and interplanetary coronal mass ejection. Finally, these composition data are examined statistically and compared to historical data sets.

- Many statistical tools have been developed to aid in the assessment of a numerical model’s quality at reproducing observations. Some of these techniques focus on the identification of events within the data set, times when the observed value is beyond some threshold value that defines it as a value of keen interest. An example of this is whether it will rain, in which events are defined as any precipitation above some defined amount. A method called the sliding threshold of observation for numeric evaluation (STONE) curve sweeps the event definition threshold of both the model output and the observations, resulting in the identification of threshold intervals for which the model does well at sorting the observations into events and nonevents. An excellent data-model comparison will have a smooth STONE curve, but the STONE curve can have wiggles and ripples in it. These features reveal clusters when the model systematically overestimates or underestimates the observations. This study establishes the connection between features in the STONE curve and attributes of the data-model relationship. The method is applied to a space weather example.

- In a sensitive cochlea, the basilar membrane response to transient excitation of any kind--normal acoustic or artificial intracochlear excitation--consists of not only a primary impulse but also a coda of delayed secondary responses with varying amplitudes but similar spectral content around the characteristic frequency of the measurement location. The coda, sometimes referred to as echoes or ringing, has been described as a form of local, short term memory which may influence the ability of the auditory system to detect gaps in an acoustic stimulus such as speech. Depending on the individual cochlea, the temporal gap between the primary impulse and the following coda ranges from once to thrice the group delay of the primary impulse (the group delay of the primary impulse is on the order of a few hundred microseconds). The coda is physiologically vulnerable, disappearing when the cochlea is compromised even slightly. The multicomponent sensitive response is not yet completely understood. We use a physiologically-based, mathematical model to investigate (i) the generation of the primary impulse response and the dependence of the group delay on the various stimulation methods, (ii) the effect of spatial perturbations in the properties of mechanically sensitive ion channels on the generation and separation of delayed secondary responses. The model suggests that the presence of the secondary responses depends on the wavenumber content of a perturbation and the activity level of the cochlea. In addition, the model shows that the varying temporal gaps between adjacent coda seen in experiments depend on the individual profiles of perturbations. Implications for non-invasive cochlear diagnosis are also discussed.

- Pollen grains emitted from vegetation can rupture, releasing subpollen particles (SPPs) as fine atmospheric particulates. Previous laboratory research demonstrates potential for SPPs as efficient cloud condensation nuclei (CCN). We develop the first model of atmospheric pollen grain rupture, and implement the mechanism in regional climate model simulations over spring pollen season in the United States with a CCN-dependent moisture scheme. The source of SPPs (surface or in-atmosphere) depends on region and sometimes season, due to the distribution of relative humidity and rain. Simulated concentrations of SPPs are approximately 1-10 or 1-1,000 cm-3, depending on the number of SPPs produced per pollen grain (nspg). Lower nspg (103) produces a negligible effect on precipitation, but high nspg (106) in clean continental CCN background concentrations (100 CCN cm-3) shows SPPs suppress average seasonal precipitation by 32% and shift rates from heavy to light while increasing dry days. The initial excitation pulse had time-bandwidth product of 6, duration of 3 ms, and slab thickness of 0.9 cm, and each refocusing pulse had time-bandwidth product of 2, duration of 2 ms, and slab thickness of 2.1 cm. The scan took 36 min 11 s and covered a field of view (FOV) of 22 x 22 x 0.99 cm^3 with matrix size 200 x 200 x 9., File: P,jf06Sep2019,b1.7 The Bloch-Siegert (BS) scans were acquired using a 3D acquisition. The excitation pulse of these scans had time-bandwidth product of 8 and duration of 1 ms. The pair of scans used +/-4 kHz off-resonant Fermi pulses between excitation and readout. The remaining scans used scan parameters that were optimized to minimize the Cramer-Rao Lower Bound (CRLB) of estimates of myelin water fraction (MWF). Each pair of SPGR scans took 58 s and the nine STFR scans took 3 min 36 s for a total scan time of 5 min 32 s (4 min 34 s if one pair of SPGR scans is ignored). - Transcriptional accessibility of chromatin is central to guiding CD4+ T cell function through regulation of lineage specific gene expression. Myst1 is a histone acetyltransferase responsible for acetylation of the protein tail of histone 4 at lysine residue 16 (H416ac), resulting in increased transcriptional accessibility and activation of gene transcription. Previous studies have described a role for Myst1 in governing lymphocyte development in the thymus, however the role of Myst1 and H4K16ac in guiding activation of peripheral CD4+ T cells has not been studied. Activation of human and murine CD4+ T cells resulted in upregulation of Myst1 expression, and deletion of Myst1 resulted in changes in proliferative responses to both polyclonal stimulus and exogenous cytokines. Myst1-deficient T cells also exhibited modulations in lineage commitment, with decreased function in TH1/TH2 skewing conditions and increased function in response to TH17-promoting conditions. Regulation of Myst1 function in CD4+ T cells appears governed at least in part by STAT5, as Myst1 expression is regulated by STAT5 expression and DNA binding, and modulations in H4K16ac in Myst1-deficient CD4+ T cells is observable at sites in the promoter regions of lineage specific genes following skewing to the TH1 or TH2 lineage in vitro. Taken together, these results indicate an important role for the STAT5-Myst1 epigenetic axis in governing the activation and effector function of CD4+ T cells.

- This dataset presents stable isotope data (d13C, d18O, D47, D17O) from Holocene lake cores from three lakes in the Peruvian Andes (Lakes Junin, Pumacocha, and Mehcocha). We also present new radiocarbon (14C) data and core age models for Lakes Junin and Mehcocha. We use these data to explore trends in lake water temperatures and evaporative state (i.e., water balance) over the Holocene. Our clumped isotope (D47) results suggest lake water temperatures at all three lakes were stable over the Holocene and similar to present day lake temperatures. Our triple oxygen isotope (D’17O) results illustrate that lake water balance at all three lakes was variable over the Holocene and tracks changes in austral summertime insolation, suggesting a connection between central Andean water balance and the South American summer monsoon (SASM).

Across studies, believing that trigger warnings are protective (versus coddling) increased their effect on anticipated negative affect, but weakened their effect on experienced negative affect. Study 1 demonstrated that anticipated anxiety for warned-of content predicts intentions to avoid information. Furthermore, beliefs about trigger warnings as protective (versus coddling) best predicted anticipated anxiety for warned-of content and subsequent intentions to avoid. In Study 2, participants had higher anticipated negative affect for videos with trigger warnings, compared to those without, and this mediated increased avoidance for warned-of videos. In Study 3, trigger warnings preceding essays increased anticipated negative affect and attentional-regulation strategies, but reduced experiences of negative affect. - This study analyzes correlations between magnetic field data from closely-spaced pairs of ground magnetometers to observe the spatial scale of ionospheric current signatures. Correlations were mainly calculated in 7.5 minute intervals for periods of multiple days. Distributions were taken from the collection of these 7.5 minute intervals to identify the amount of time where the magnetometers were observing "similar" or "different" ionospheric signatures. The raw magnetometer data was taken from two geomagnetic storms: one taking place on 7-8 September, 2017, and the other taking place on 23-24 March, 2023. These periods were selected due to the presence of both high and low geomagnetic activity. The final distributions calculated from this analysis are available in Correlation_Distributions.csv.

- The data were processed using the scripted VLA calibration pipeline ( https://science.nrao.edu/facilities/vla/data-processing/pipeline/scripted-pipeline) for the Common Astronomy Software Applications (CASA) package version 5.3.0. Imaging was performed using the TCLEAN task in CASA with standard parameters appropriate for broadband data with point-source emissison. We used Briggs weighting with robust parameters between 0 and 1. Self calibration was implemented manually on an as-needed basis for sufficiently bright sources with evidence for residual phase errors in the image plane.

These data are saved at a 12 minute cadence and are used to train the LSTM model., and B_HARPs_CNNencoded_part_xxx.hdf5 and M_X HARPs_CNNencoded_part_xxx.hdf5 include neural network encoded features derived from vector magnetogram images derived from the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI). These data files typically contains one or two sequences of magnetograms covering an active region for a period of 24h with a 1 hour cadence. We encode each magnetogram with frames of a fixed size of 8x16 with 512 channels.

The DOI link is https://doi.org/10.1029/2019RS006891 , The Earth's Ionosphere is home to a large population of energetic electrons that live in the balance of many factors including input from the Solar wind, and the influence of the Earth's magnetic field. These energetic electrons emit radio waves as they traverse Earth's magnetosphere, leading to short‐lived, strong radio emissions from local regions, as well as persistent weaker emissions that act as a global signature of the population breakdown of all the energetic electrons. Characterizing this weaker emission (Synchrotron Emission) would lead to a greater understanding of the energetic electron populations on a day to day level. A radio array on the near side of the Moon would always be facing the Earth, and would well suited for measuring its low frequency radio emissions. In this work we simulate such a radio array on the lunar near side, to image this weaker synchrotron emission. The specific geometry and location of the test array were made using the most recent lunar maps made by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. This array would give us unprecedented day to day knowledge of the electron environment around our planet, providing reports of Earth's strong and weak radio emissions, giving both local and global information. , This set of codes should guide you through making the figures in the paper, as well as hopefully being accessible enough for changing the code for your own array. - Tsqvetiligora is the easternmost of three hills located just south of the modern village of Dapnari that formed the foci of excavations carried out from 1967 through 1973: Dapnisgora (A003, A004, A006), Chaisgora (A005), and Tsqvetiligora. Together they form a series of stepped hills oriented northwest-southeast that rise up to the south from the Phasis River plain. Tsqvetiligora or “Split/Valley Hill” is actually a saddle that extends east from Chaisgora. Excavations were carried out on the middle terrace of Tsqvetiligora and revealed a mixed layer of trash and kitchen waste, including a few fragments of Attic black-glazed pottery (5th-4th centuries), all generally dated to the 6th-4th centuries. As no traces of habitation were found in the trench, the excavator suggested that settlement was limited to the top, main part of the hill, which was not excavated due to its heavy forest cover. Along the saddle between Chaisgora and Tsqvetiligora, we identified the area where earlier excavations had uncovered pottery and burnt daub and where, to the east, a pithos burial was reportedly found (A007). Beyond Tsqvetiligora, the road turns sharply to the northeast. The owner of a farmhouse at the end of the road reported that a pithos grave was found on a hill east of his house.

- The west side of the hill near Dapnisgora slopes abruptly down to a gorge. On these western slopes we were shown two sections of a wall built of small- to medium-sized limestone slabs set in white mortar. The section of wall located to the south is oriented roughly northwest-southeast and has visible dimensions of roughly 1.2 m long, 0.20 m high, and 0.45 m wide. Its stones are roughly 0.15-0.20 m long and 0.05 m high. About 3 m to the north lies the second section of wall, which is oriented roughly north south and incorporates larger limestone slabs. Only the down-slope faces of both sections of wall are visible. It is unclear whether these are terraces (without an up-slope face) or whether the up-slope face has simply been buried by erosion. The date of construction is uncertain. Farther southeast along the contours of the hillside we found pottery, including: an amphora handle; Hellenistic and Mediaeval pithos fragments; fragments of a Mediaeval pithos set in lime mortar; large fragments of burnt mud plaster in a niche in the hillside into which they may have eroded; and a stone pestle. The preserved dimensions of the stone pestle are 0.08 m radius (indicating an original diameter of 0.16 m), and 0.16 m in length with a tapered end.

- The north side of the hill east of Dapnisgora is crowned by a house or rustic church marked by a large wooden cross. In this area, the hill slopes gently to the north and northeast in a series of terraces facing the Phasis River valley. On the northeastern terrace, a bronze bull figurine and an alabaster elephant figurine had reportedly been found and sold to antiquities dealers. Farther down the hill, on the northern terrace, a number of pithos graves had been unearthed. Chunks of vitrified mud plaster, possibly ancient, are strewn across the terraces above this apparent necropolis.

- Dapnisgora is the westernmost of three hills located just south of the modern village of Dapnari that formed the foci of excavations carried out from 1967 through 1973: Dapnisgora, Chaisgora (A005), and Tsqvetiligora (A007). Together they form a series of stepped hills oriented northwest-southeast that rise up to the south from the Phasis River plain. Excavations on Dapnisgora were conducted on the middle terrace of the northwest slope of the hill (A003, where pottery continues to be discovered), farther to the west, and on the south slope. Evidence of settlement from the 6th to 3rd centuries B.C. was found on all three hills. Mixed cultural materials, including a curved iron knife and an iron axe, Hellenistic pottery such as a black-glazed kylix fragment (4th-3rd century B.C.), and Colchian pottery possibly as early as the 6th-4th centuries B.C., were found on the northwest slope of Dapnis Gora (Trench 1). In addition to traces of occupation spread among all three hills, pithos graves covered almost the entire hill of Dapnisgora, interred singly or in clusters, and dating to the 4th-2nd centuries. Almost all of the pithos burials were placed vertically, usually with the mouth at the bottom. The grave goods usually included between one and four clay vessels, jewelry, and sometimes coins. Rather than forming a single large cemetery of a size otherwise undocumented, these burials were more likely associated with individual homesteads situated across the hill. More recent discoveries of a significant amount of pottery, including Hellenistic roof-tiles and amphora fragments, on the southwest slopes of Dapnisgora during informal surveys by S. Kharabadze and by the Vani Regional Survey project support this interpretation. Kighuradze pictured such wattle-and-daub houses scattered widely across the hillslopes, situated some distance from each other on artificial or natural terraces and surrounded by garden-plots, a situation she compared to the modern settlement pattern of the region.

- Chaisgora is the middle of three hills located just south of the modern village of Dapnari that formed the foci of excavations carried out from 1967 through 1973: Dapnisgora (A003, A004, A006), Chaisgora, and Tsqvetiligora (A007). Together they form a series of stepped hills oriented northwest-southeast that rise up to the south from the Phasis River plain. Excavations on Chaisgora were carried out in the middle terrace of the north slope of the hill at a place known as “Ernali” and on the south slope of the hill on the border of a tea plantation. Traces of buildings were also found on the west slope, and portion of the hill at the east end of the modern village was explored with soundings, three of which were then integrated into one of the trenches. Evidence of settlement from the 6th-3rd centuries B.C. was found on all three hills, but only on Chaisgora were the remains of actual structures identified. Trench 1 in the “Ernali” area of the north hillslope contained burnt daub, materials the excavator identified as adobe bricks, local table- and kitchenware, and imported pottery, including a single fragment of an Attic black-glazed “salt dish” (5th-4th centuries); pieces of Chian (5th century), Thassian (5th-4th centuries), and Sinopean (4th-3rd centuries) amphorae; and a Rhodian amphora handle stamped with the priest eponym “ΚΑΡΠΟΥ”. On the south slope of the hill, in Trench 2, the excavations revealed irregular pieces of burnt daub, the charcoaled traces of slim wooden beams used as wattle, and misshapen, weakly baked materials identified as adobe bricks. These remains, which covered an area of about 12 sq m, were too fragmentary to allow the reconstruction of a building plan. Under the building remains were found a stone mill, a fragment of a stone pan, a whetstone, iron tools for such uses as leatherworking, and local table- and kitchenware, all from 5th-4th centuries. Similar building remains were also identified on the west hillslope of Chaisgora, and a rich assemblage of materials was discovered as surface finds on the east parts of the hill, including, for example, burnt daub, stone mills, and pithoi fragments. The only two burials found outside of Dapnisgora were located on Chaisgora, one on the very steep west slope and the other on the northwest slope, dating to the Hellenistic period. In the terrace of Chaisgora, the survey team recorded extensive traces of burnt mud plaster embedded in the earth as well as pottery fragments, including Sinopian amphorae. The terrace takes its name from numerous tea bushes planted here in the Soviet period.

- Description:
- Rapho Jashi, who lives in a house just south of the main east-west road and east of the junction between this road and the road running north to Samtredia, showed us pithos fragments, teeth, and a small clay jug from four pithos burials he unearthed in the area around his house. The jug is Colchian and from the Hellenistic period. It has one double-rolled handle and is decorated with two sets of incised grooved rings, one at the base of the neck and the other at the base of the shoulder. The grooved rings, neck, and a band on the widest part of the belly are painted red. The vessel has a concave ring foot. The fabric is tannish-red in color. Preserved dimensions: H., 0.15 m., Diam. of neck, 0.023 m., Diam. of body, 0.14 m., Diam. of base, 0.08 m.

- On a low terrace near the bottom of the gorge west of Dapnisgora lie the remains of a square structure solidly built of mortared rubble set in hard white mortar. The walls of the structure are approximately 1 m thick, and each side is approximately 7 m long. Possible cover-tiles, probably not ancient, were found at the northeastern corner of the structure. The surrounding area is covered with many fallen chunks of masonry. The structure appears to be either a small chapel, possibly with a vaulted roof, or a tower.

- The modern village of Dapnari lies 16 km west of Vani at the junction between the main east-west road south of the Phasis River and a branch road running north to a bridge across the Phasis and beyond that to the town Samtredia. The houses of the village extend southward from the valley floor to the foothills of the Lesser Caucasus. It is located in the Samtredia administrative district. Our survey focused on a hill oriented northwest-southeast and located to the southeast of the road junction. The hill rises 200 m above the river plain. An extensive necropolis and associated occupational layers of the 6th-4th centuries B.C. were excavated in this area in the 1960s-70s (Kiguradze 1976). We designated six areas on this hill as points of interest: a terrace on the west side of the hill known as Dapnisgora (”Laurel Hill”), together with the hillslope below it (A003); an open meadow near the top of the hill, where a number of pithos graves were excavated in the 1970s, and where local cowherds reported finding bronze and ivory figurines (A004); a terrace on the south side of the hill known as Chaisgora (”Tea Hill”) (A005); an area on the slopes below Chaisgora where a limestone terrace wall is visible (A006); another terrace in a saddle on the east side of the hill known as Tsqvetiligora (A007); and a limestone structure, possibly a church, in the valley west of the hill (A008). In addition, the owner of a house on the main road at the east edge of the village reported finding four pithos burials on his property, and showed us a number of remains from these graves (A013).

- Natsikhvarigora is one of the three hills located just south of the modern village of Dablagomi that were the foci of large-scale excavations in 1936 and again from 1970-1974 that revealed a long history of ancient occupation at Dablagomi, extending from the Early Bronze Age to the Hellenistic period (3rd millennium to 2nd century B.C.). It is situated between two streams, the Tetri Ghele on the west and the Shavi Ghele on the east. The Tetri Ghele separate Natsikhvarigora from Nasakirevigora (A014) to the northwest. The excavations concentrated on the top and on the west, north, and east slopes of the hill. Early Bronze Age materials (Kuro-Arax pottery, burnt daub, stone implements) were found on the top of the hill only, in addition to pottery from the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age, and Early Hellenistic period. The excavations revealed a rich body of evidence for occupation across the hillslopes in the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age (burnt daub, Colchian pottery, bronze tools) and in the Classical and Hellenistic period (pithos burials, burnt daub, Colchian and imported pottery). The pithos burials of the Classical period were found in groups apparently arranged on family plots near households rather than in distinct cemeteries. The the most prominent discovery was a rich grave of the beginning of the 3rd century B.C., set in a large wooden structure and covered with Sinopean tiles, found on the west slope of Natsikhvarigora. The grave was constructed of wooden planks joined by large iron nails lining a north-south oriented pit cut into the rocky ground. A roof made of six rows of flat, overlapping tiles with rounded cover tiles, three tiles per row, covered most of the grave: the grave itself was 3.5 x 1.6 m, while the tiles covered an area of only 3 x 1.6 m. The tiles were found 0.6-0.8 m below ground surface, and 4th-century pithos burials were discovered nearby. As is common for the region, human remains were not preserved. The burial goods, arranged around the body along the edges of the pit, included gold jewels, bronze and silver wares, iron weapons, imported and local pottery, glass paste and stone beads, and pendants. Our visit was limited to the east side of the hill, where we observed numerous Classical and early Hellenistic period pithos fragments (some with braided and grooved patterning), fragments of unidentified imported ware, lithics, and burnt mud plaster.

- Nasaqdrevigora is one of the three hills located just south of the modern village of Dablagomi that were the foci of large-scale excavations in 1936 and again from 1970-1974 that revealed a long history of ancient occupation at Dablagomi, extending from the Early Bronze Age to the Hellenistic period (3rd millennium to 2nd century B.C.). It is a small hillock that rises up behind and to the west of Nasakirevigora (A014). In contrast to Nasakirevigora (A014) and Natsikhvarigora (A019), where extensive evidence for occupation of the Classical and Hellenistic period was found, here on Nasaqdrevigora evidence of occupation is limited to the Late Bronze and Early Iron Age (burnt daub, Colchian pottery, bronze tools) in two phases (12th-10th and 8th-7th centuries) and was found on the north slope only, not on the top or the east slope (other areas were not explored). Nasaqdrevigora is currently crowned with an illuminated wooden cross. We did not find ancient remains at the time of our visit. A path along the northern slope of this hill connects Nasaqdrevigora with Nasakirevigora (A014) on the eastern slope of the hill.

- Nasakirevigora is one of the three hills located just south of the modern village of Dablagomi that were the foci of large-scale excavations in 1936 and again from 1970-1974 that revealed a long history of ancient occupation at Dablagomi, extending from the Early Bronze Age to the Hellenistic period (3rd millennium to 2nd century B.C.). The southeastern boundary of the hill is marked by the Tetri Ghele, which separates Nasakirevigora from Natsikhvarigora (A019) to the southeast. Excavations on Nasakirevigora were carried out on top of the hill and on its slopes facing north and northwest toward the plain and those facing southeast along the Tetri Ghele. Materials of the Classical and Hellenistic were found across Nasakrevigora and the area in between it and Natsikhvarigora to the southeast; these included pithos burials, burnt daub, Colchian and imported pottery. The pithos burials of the Classical period were found in groups apparently arranged on family plots near households rather than in distinct cemeteries. The eastern slope of the hill is steep and covered with pottery that has washed down the hillside, including fragments of pithoi (some with braided and notched patterns) and amphorae, and other pottery sherds, as well as chunks of burnt mud plaster. Part way up the hill, there is a level terrace with chalky limestone eroding out of the south slope of the hillside above, which gives this area the name Nasakirevigora (”Chalk Hill”). Here we saw large chunks of mud plaster with plant impressions, a stone pestle, and many amphora fragments (Colchian and Sinopian). The stone pestle is 0.1-0.2 m in diameter. Sulkhan Kharabadze found a large fragment of the shoulder of a Sinopian amphora, approximately 0.20 m long and about 0.15-0.20 m below the ground surface. A pithos burial was also reported in this area. Farther up the hill, at the lower rim of another terrace, Ryan Hughes recorded a stone mortar, 0.30 m long, 0.19 m wide, and 0.045 m thick, with rounded edges. A path running westward along the northern slope of this hill leads to Nasaqdrevigora (A015).

- To the southeast of Natsikhvarisgora runs the Shavi Ghele. East of the Shavi Ghele rises a stepped series of hills oriented north-south. To the east of this series of hills is a village called Gomnatekhebi, which means “Place of Broken Sherds.” Though this series of hills does not have a specific name, this record will refer to it as Gomnatekhebi as well. We drove south to a high point on this series of hills and walked north, down the hills and towards the main road. On the way, Sulkhan Karabadze found a large pottery sherd with a multirolled handle, which Guram Kvirkvelia identified as Roman or early Mediaeval. A man living in a 19th-century wooden house nearby reported to have found pithos fragments in the same area. All pottery collected from this area has been identified as Early Mediaeval.

- The remains of a church, probably destroyed by Communism enthusiasts in the early 20th century were noted just southeast of the point where the main east-west road crosses the Shavi Ghele (which runs north-south). The church is built of limestone slabs set in hard white mortar. The foundations of the church are exposed in the east (uphill) scarp of a low terrace. Further to the north, in the same scarp, Sulkhan Kharabadze and Guram Kvirkvelia identified an 8th-7th century B.C. “cultural layer” (A022).

- In the east (uphill) scarp of a low terrace southeast of the point where the main east-west road crosses the Shavi Ghele, Sulkhan Kharabadze and Guram Kvirkvelia identified an 8th-7th century B.C. “cultural layer,” dated by a fragment of a zoomorphic handle and including many fragments of burnt mud plaster. This layer appears to be about 0.40 m thick, but the bottom of the layer is obscured by slump at the base of the scarp, and it may be thicker. The layer is covered by river gravel about 0.30-0.40 m thick, on top of which lies a more recent cultural layer, about 0.30-0.40 m thick. To the south, the remains of a Mediaeval church (A021) are embedded in this upper layer.

- The modern village of Dablagomi lies 11 km west of Vani on the main east-west road south of the Phasis River at the edge of the river plain. It is located in the Samtredia administrative district. Our survey focused on an area south of the main road centered on the Tetri Ghele (“White Stream”) and the Shavi Ghele (“Black Stream”) Rivers, and on the hills on either side. In these areas, excavations carried out in the 1970s and earlier had recovered archaeological remains extending in date from the early Bronze Age to the Hellenistic period. Pride of place goes to a rich grave of the early 3rd century, set in a large wooden coffin and covered with Sinopean tiles (Tolordava 1976b). To the west of the Tetri Ghele, we visited and recorded sites at Nasakirevigora (A014) and Nasaqdrevigora (A015). Although we observed no ancient remains at the latter location, earlier excavations had revealed finds of the Classical period. Between the Tetri Ghele and Shavi Ghele, we assigned a site number to Natsikhvarigora (Natsikhvara) (A019), where we saw both pottery and fragments of burnt mud plaster on the surface, and where excavations had also been carried out in the 1970s. East of the Shavi Ghele, we walked along a hill called Gomnatekhebi (A020), where Sulkhan Kharabadze found an amphora handle, and other pottery finds were reported by a farmer living on the hill. In the central part of the village of Dablagomi, just south of the main road, we gave site numbers to a destroyed church (A021) and an 8th-7th century B.C. “cultural layer” exposed in a modern terracing operation (A022).
