- Description:
- Social media data offer a rich resource for researchers interested in public health, labor economics, politics, social behaviors, and other topics. However, scale and anonymity mean that researchers often cannot directly get permission from users to collect and analyze their social media data. This article applies the basic ethical principle of respect for persons to consider individuals’ perceptions of acceptable uses of data. We compare individuals' perceptions of acceptable uses of other types of sensitive data, such as health records and individual identifiers, with their perceptions of acceptable uses of social media data. Our survey of 1018 people shows that individuals think of their social media data as moderately sensitive and agree that it should be protected. Respondents are generally okay with researchers using their data in social research but prefer that researchers clearly articulate benefits and seek explicit consent before conducting research. We argue that researchers must ensure that their research provides social benefits worthy of individual risks and that they must address those risks throughout the research process.

- Description:
- Accurate prediction of physical alterations in carbonate reservoirs under dissolution is critical for development of subsurface energy technologies. The impact of mineral dissolution on flow characteristics depends on the connectivity and tortuosity of the pore network. Persistent homology is a tool from algebraic topology that describes the size and connectivity of topological features. When applied to 3D X-ray computed tomography (XCT) imagery of rock cores, it provides a novel metric of pore network heterogeneity. Prior works have demonstrated the efficacy of persistent homology in predicting flow properties in numerical simulations of flow through porous media. Its ability to combine size, spatial distribution, and connectivity information make it a promising tool for understanding reactive transport in complex pore networks, yet limited work has been done to apply persistence analysis to experimental studies on natural rocks. In this study, three limestone cores were imaged by XCT before and after acid-driven dissolution flow through experiments. Each XCT scan was analyzed using persistent homology. In all three rocks, permeability increase was driven by the growth of large, connected pore bodies. The two most homogenous samples saw an increased effect nearer to the flow inlet, suggesting emerging preferential flow paths as the reaction front progresses. The most heterogeneous sample showed an increase in along-core homogeneity during reaction. Variability of persistence showed moderate positive correlation with pore body size increase. Persistence heterogeneity analysis could be used to anticipate where greatest pore size evolution may occur in a reservoir targeted for subsurface development, improving confidence in project viability.

- This information provides the data and commands to manually setup the computational simulations used in the PLOS ONE paper 'Patient-specific modeling of right coronary circulation vulnerability post-liver transplant in Alagille’s syndrome' using CRIMSON (CARDIOVASCULAR INTEGRATED MODELLING & SIMULATION) a prototype simulation environment developed under the support of the European Research Council (( http://www.crimson.software/)., Note that a Windows version of the CRIMSON flowsolver is provided as part of the CRIMSON Windows installer, but you will need a very powerful Windows computer to run these simulations, as the models used in the present work are extremely computationally-demanding. It is recommended that you use a Linux version of the CRIMSON flowsolver on a high-performance computer., Option 1 (ready-to-use files to immediately start the simulation): 1. Please unzip the Ready-to-use files. 2. Copy the folders of each of the three conditions to the high performance computer. 3. In addition to different codes used, each folder provides the boundary conditions applied in the simulations described in the manuscript (e.g. LPN parameters). To run the 3D simulations for each condition simply launch the it using the CRIMSON flowsolver. In addition, the solver.inp file can be modified to run a 0D "real-time simulation" (please open solver.inp with a text editor and modify line 4 "Simulate in Purely Zero Dimensions:" to "True")., Option 2 (using the MITK files): 1. Please download and install Crimson software ( http://www.crimson.software/). 2. Please unzip the MITK files and the Ready-to-use files. 3. From amongst the provided MITK files, load the MITK file of interest to CRIMSON (using the MITK files, additional changes can be made to the computational model in case the user wants to explore different settings/boundary conditions e.g. change the vascular wall properties, introducing a change in the geometry to create a virtual stenosis). 3. Navigate to the tree in the "Data Manager" panel and select the "Pulmonaries", "CRIMSON SOLVER" and then "Solver study 3D" items, in the described order. 4. In the right hand panel select the "CRIMSON Solver setup" tab and scroll down the right hand bar until to find the "Setup Solver" box; click to output the simulation files (faceInfo.dat, geombc.dat.1, multidomain.dat, netlist_surface.dat,numstart.dat, presolver folder, solver.inp, restart.0.1). 5. Copy and replace the geombc.dat.1 and restart.0.1 generated by CRIMSON for each individual condition to the respective unziped folder in the Ready-to-use file (discard the remaining files that were output by CRIMSON). Note that if you have not changed anything about the model (e.g. vascular wall properties), then doing this will produce restart.0.1 and geombc.dat.1 files which are identical to the ready-to-use versions. 6. Finally copy each Condition folder to the high performance computer and simply launch the simulation using the CRIMSON flowsolver., and For technical queries please contact crimson-users@googlegroups.com. --October 2018.

The files include data which show trends in the propensity of termination for different burster types and the MATLAB scripts used to generate this data. The MATLAB scripts also allow the user to generate their own data sets for alternative bursting paths and stimulus parameter combinations. Furthermore, they allow the user to visually examine the effects of single stimuli in the voltage timeseries and in state space. How the user can access these features of the script is described in the file "ReadMe.pdf."

- Description:
- Non-thermal plasma systems offer unique opportunities in the fields of bio-imaging, drug delivery, photovoltaics, microelectronics manufacturing. Such interests are largely inspired by the fact that hot plasma electrons coexist with neutral species and ions close to room-temperature under non-thermal plasma conditions. Modeling of these systems requires a deep understanding of the atomistic processes underlying the rich chemistry of the various radicals and ions with the nascent nanoparticle surface. A key parameter for determining the contribution of a certain radical/ion species to the nanoparticle surface growth, called sticking coefficient, is computed as a weighted sum from the simulated sticking outcomes with different collision velocities drawn from a Maxwell-Boltzmann distribution at certain temperatures. In this work, the collisions of SiHx (x=1-4) fragments and silicon cluster (Si4, Si2H6, and Si29H36) surfaces, responsible for the sticking coefficients, are simulated by molecular dynamics (MD) with a reactive force field. The dependence of sticking coefficients on temperature, H coverage of both silane fragments and cluster surfaces, and the size of the cluster, are systematically examined. And the mechanism underlying the sticking events, specifically the conversion of physical aggregation to chemisorption is investigated to better understand the complex interplay between factors influencing the surface growth. The detailed and multi-parameter model of sticking coefficients, accompanied by the mechanism study of physisorption to chemisorption conversion, provides a more accurate and robust approximation of surface growth rate using sticking coefficients, and a deeper understanding of surface growth processes, for the wider non-thermal plasma simulation community.

- This dataset is part of a collection created to facilitate research in the use of novel sensors for autonomous vehicle perception. , The dataset collection platform is a Ford Fusion vehicle with a roof-mounted novel sensing suite, which specifically consists of forward-facing stereo uncooled thermal cameras (FLIR 40640U050-6PAAX), event cameras (iniVation DVXplorer), monochrome cameras (FLIR BFS-PGE-16S2M), and RGB cameras (FLIR BFS-PGE-50S5C) time synchronized with ground truth poses from a high precision navigation system. , Further information and resources (such as software tools for converting, managing, and viewing data files) are available on the project website: https://umautobots.github.io/nsavp , and CHANGE NOTICE (January 2024): We identified an error in our timestamp post-processing procedure that caused all camera timestamps to be offset by the exposure time of one of the cameras. We corrected the error, applied the corrected post-processing, and reuploaded the corrected files. The change impacts all camera data files. Prior to the change, the timestamps between the cameras were synchronized with submillisecond accuracy, but the camera and ground truth pose timestamps were offset by up to 0.4 ms, 3 ms, and 15 ms in the afternoon, sunset, and night sequences, respectively. This amounted in up to ~0.25 meters of position error in the night sequences. For consistency, camera calibration was rerun with the corrected calibration sequence files. The camera calibration results have therefore been updated as well, although they have not changed significantly. Finally, we previously downsampled the frame data in the uploaded calibration seqeuence, but we decided to provide the full frame data in the reupload.

- Description:
- This repository includes the analysis code and raw data for a paper titled "Nanophotonic control of thermal emission under extreme temperatures in air, " in Nature Nanotechnology (see citation). In our work, well defined structure-color effects guided the design of a nanostructure containing stratified layers of two oxides, magnesium oxide (MgO) and barium zirco-hafnate (BaZr0.5Hf0.5O3 or BZHO). The repeating layers were tuned in such a way to manipulate incident infrared wavelengths. The infrared is the spectral range in which heat (in the form of electromagnetic radiation) is emitted from objects. Therefore, the nanostructure serves as a way to alter the thermal emission spectrum of hot objects, controlling how much heat can flow. This can have significant impacts on a range of technologies, such as thermal photovoltaics (TPVs), which generate electricity from the infrared light emission of hot objects (compared to visible light emission from the sun in solar photovoltaics). We envision that our MgO/BZHO nanostructure can be paired with a thermal emitter in TPV systems to beneficially manipulate the flow of infrared light, leading to more efficient electricity production. To characterize the thermal stability of this structure, we had to characterize the thermal stability and optical performance at room temperature and at 1100 °C. This lead us to conduct several experiments using ellipsometry, TEM, EDS, and FTIR.

- Description:
- The study focuses on reconstructing the histories of peat deposition using n-alkane biomarkers in peat cores and associated modern plant communities from four sites around a shallow maar lake in the Changbai Mountains of northeastern China. Peat development patterns in the four sites are not concordant although the sites experienced the same paleoclimate histories. Evidently, lava flows and tephra deposits produced an uneven topography of the volcanogenic lake basin that controls the water depths at the four lake edge locations, thereby leading to differences in peat-forming plant communities and peat deposition among the four sites.

- Description:
- In this work , we study the problem of allocating limited security countermeasures to protect network data from cyber-attacks, for scenarios modeled by Bayesian attack graphs. We consider multi-stage interactions between a network administrator and cybercriminals, formulated as a security game. We propose parameterized heuristic strategies for the attacker and defender and provide detailed analysis of their time complexity. Our heuristics exploit the topological structure of attack graphs and employ sampling methods to overcome the computational complexity in predicting opponent actions. Due to the complexity of the game, we employ a simulation-based approach and perform empirical game analysis over an enumerated set of heuristic strategies. Finally, we conduct experiments in various game settings to evaluate the performance of our heuristics in defending networks, in a manner that is robust to uncertainty about the security environment.

- Introduction: Diagnostic testing is common in the emergency department. The value of some testing is questionable. The purpose of this study was to assess how varying levels of benefit, risk, and costs influenced an individual’s desire to have diagnostic testing. Methods: A survey through Amazon Mechanical Turk presented hypothetical clinical situations: low risk chest pain and minor traumatic brain injury. Each scenario included three given variables (benefit, risk, and cost), that was independently randomly varied over four possible values (0.1%, 1%, 5%, 10% for benefit and risk and $0, $100, $500, and $1000 for the individual’s personal cost for receiving the test). Benefit was defined as the probability of finding the target disease (traumatic intracranial hemorrhage or acute coronary syndrome). Results: A total of 1000 unique respondents completed the survey. Increasing benefit from 0.1% to 10%, the percent of respondents who accepted a diagnostic test went from 28.4% to 53.1%. [OR: 3.42 (2.57-4.54)] As risk increased from 0.1% to 10%, this number decreased from 52.5% to 28.5%. [OR: 0.33 (0.25-0.44)] Increasing cost from $0 to $1000 had the greatest change of those accepting the test from 61.1% to 21.4%, respectively. [OR: 0.15 (0.11-0.2)] Conclusions: The desire for testing was strongly sensitive to the benefits, risks and costs. Many participants wanted a test when there was no added cost, regardless of benefit or risk levels, but far fewer elected to receive the test as cost increased incrementally. This suggests that out of pocket costs may deter patients from undergoing diagnostic testing with low potential benefit.

- Description:
- Nikuradzeebis Ubani (also known as Samkharadzeebis Ubani) is a gently sloping area that stretches out to the north from the base of Nabambevisgora, which is one of the four hills near the modern village of Mtisdziri that were the foci of excavations carried out in the 1970s and the location of a number of accidental finds. These hills are located southeast of the center of the modern village, which lies 10 km west of Vani on the south edge of the Phasis River valley, and rise to elevations 80-120 m above the plain. In Nikuradzeebis Ubani, two pithos burials presumably of the Hellenistic period were found by chance in 1958. During our visit, a farmer living in this area named Giorgi Tavadze, told us that a number of pithos burials had been found there recently as well, but we observed no traces of ancient occupation in this area.

These hills are located southeast of the center of the modern village, which lies 10 km west of Vani on the south edge of the Phasis River valley, and rise to elevations 80-120 m above the plain. The eastern limit of Nabambevisgora is formed by a small stream called the Tsabla Ghele. The area to the west of this stream, on the east slope of the Nabambevisgora, is called Nashuebi. Archaeological research at Mtisdziri began with the chance discovery of a rich assemblage of objects in Nashuebi in 1952. The assemblage was found beneath a large slab and possibly belonged to a grave covered by this slab. Included in the assemblage were a number of precious artifacts, including “a gold earring, a gold torque, [and] fragments of a bronze vessel” (G. Gamkrelidze), together with, most notably, a silver rhyton with a protome in the form of a man-headed goat (the figural protome is 0.76 m in both height and length). This rhyton, now in the Vani Museum, has been much studied and published, most extensively by G. Gamkrelidze and F. Knauss, both of whom agree that it combines Achaemenid models with Greek ornament, and was probably made by local artisans in the 4th century B.C. In the 1970s, two trenches were dug in the area of the Tsabla Ghele, where the grave with the silver rhyton had been found, but the grave was not located (Trenches 14 and 15) (Gamkrelidze); it may have been carried away or buried by a landslide. During our visit, we picked up a Thasian amphora toe of the 4th century B.C. on the west bank of the Tsabla Ghele (A029); this point also marks the general area in Nashuebi where the rich grave including the silver rhyton was found and excavations carried out.

In the 1970s, a single trench was dug on Mtisdzirisgora, where Hellenistic pottery and lumps of burnt daub but no in-situ features were unearthed (Trench 13) (Gamkrelidze). On the northwest slope of the Mtisdzirisgora, just below the top of the hill, we recorded a surface scatter of pottery and small cobbles (A027), the latter possibly remains of the foundations of small houses, workshops, or farm buildings.

Here in the saddle between Adeishvilebisgora and Naktsevigora, an area known as Geperidzeebis Namosakhlari (A023), excavations of the 1970s revealed cultural materials, including pithos burials but no in-situ features, in nine of the ten trenches excavated (one was sterile).

The path leading up the hill the east side, now planted with hazelnut trees, is littered with fragments of burnt mud plaster and pottery. Here on the top of Adeishvilebisgora (A025), excavations revealed the stone walls of a large masonry structure in Trench 12. The an oblong structure is oriented east-west: 29.4 m east-west by 7.5 m north-south. The walls of the structure are 1 m wide, and it is divided by a cross wall into two rooms, one 5.5 m wide and 21 m long, the other 5.5 m square. The walls are built of mortared rubble masonry, mostly sandstone with some other materials including limestone, marble, and river cobbles. The upper parts of the structure must also have been built partly of brick, and it seems to have had a tile roof (400 fragments of brick and 500 fragments of tile were recovered in the excavations). Other finds included local and imported (sigillata) pottery, iron items, and fragments of glass vessels. The excavator, G. Gamkrelidze, believed that this structure was built in the Late Roman period (3rd or 4th century A.D.), and used until the early Mediaeval period (8th century A.D.). Traces of earlier buildings are preserved at the east end of the structure, which the excavator identified with an early Roman phase (1st c. -3rd c. A.D.). The excavator believed that the late Roman/early Mediaeval building exposed in Trench 12 belonged to “a large fortification complex,” but it is not obviously defensive in character. He also suggested, on the evidence of a nearby toponym, Mukhuri (located between Mtisdziri and Dablagomi) that Mtisdziri in this period may be identified with a fortified outpost named as Μουχείρισος in Byzantine sources. We visited the old excavation site, which was much overgrown, where we were able to record a section of a stone wall 0.07 m thick.

- Description:
- Adeishvilebisgora is one of four hills near the modern village of Mtisdziri that were the foci of excavations carried out in the 1970s and the location of a number of accidental finds. These hills are located southeast of the center of the modern village, which lies 10 km west of Vani on the south edge of the Phasis River valley, and rise to elevations 80-120 m above the plain. In the area of Adeishvilebisgora, we recorded three points of interest: the site of an old excavation trench in the saddle between Adeishvilebisgora and Naktsevigora (the area known as Geperidzeebis Namosakhlari; A023); the location of a previously excavated timber frame structure on the east side of the hill (A024); and the location of a previously excavated Late Roman and Mediaeval structure on top of the hill (A025). Previous excavations on the east slope of Adeishvilebisgora (A024) revealed the stone foundations of a timber frame structure interpreted as a watchtower by excavator G. Gamkrelidze and dated to the end of the 5th or first half of the 4th century B.C. (Trench 11). According to the excavation publications, this structure is oblong and oriented north-south: 14.8 m north-south by 10 m east-west. Its walls range in width from 2.6 to 2.8 m, and it is divided by a cross wall, 1.0 m wide, into two chambers, one 4.8 wide by 5.6 m long, the other 4.8 wide by 2.8 m long. According to the excavator, the inner and outer faces of the walls were built in log cabin fashion (as described by Vitruvius for Colchian houses) on stone foundations set in shallow trenches dug into undisturbed soil. The stone foundations on the exterior rose higher than those on the interior, thus apparently forming a socle that originally rose above the surrounding ground level. The spaces between the wall faces were filled with rubble set in mud, with occasional wooden tie beams. The excavator suggests that this structure may have been a multi-storied tower. He further suggests that it may have formed part of the territorial fortifications of Vani, but his reconstruction is also compatible with the identification of the structure as a fortified house – some variant of the type of structure described, in fact, by Vitruvius. The structure is dated by Colchian and imported pottery (fragments of Chian amphora; two complete Mendean amphorae; four fragments of black-glazed pottery) found in the excavations, and by a radiocarbon date for a sample of the timber framework of 330 B.C. plus or minus 40 years (uncalibrated and not reliable). The excavator believed that it was destroyed by fire in the mid-4th century B.C. A similar structure was apparently found at Vartsikhe. The excavation also revealed material from the 7th-6th century B.C. During our visit, the stone foundations of a structure were visible in the old excavation trench, but no additional ancient remains were found.

- Description:
- The modern village of Mtisdziri lies 10 km west of Vani on the main east-west road south of the Phasis River at the edge of the river plain. Mtisdziri is located on the border between the Samtredia and Vani administrative districts. The main area of archaeological interest is a cluster of small hills, southeast of the center of the settlement, which rise to elevations 80-120 m above the valley. These include three hills running in a row from east to west, Adeishvilebisgora, Mtisdzirisgora, and Nabambevisgora, together with a fourth, higher hill, known as Naktsevigora, which rises behind the first two. In recent years (beginning in 1978), substantial landslides from this last hill have partially filled the valley (Geperidzeebis Ghele) between Adeishvilebisgora and Mtisdzirisgora. To the west, running between Mtisdzirisgora and Nabambevisgora, there is a small stream, whose name is the Tsabla Ghele. The area to the west of this stream, on the east slope of Nabambevisgora, is called Nashuebi. These hills were the foci of excavations carried out in the 1970s, which yielded remains dating from the 7th century B.C. to the early Mediaeval period (Gamkrelidze and Knauss). Mtisdziri was visited on 20 and 21 June 2009. In the area of Adeishvilebisgora, we recorded three points of interest: the site of an old excavation trench in the saddle between Adeishvilebisgora and Naktsevigora (the area known as Geperidzeebis Namosakhlari; A023); the location of the timber frame structure in Trench 11 on the east side of the hill (A024), where we saw traces of stone foundations; and the location of the Late Roman and Mediaeval structure in Trench 12 on top of the hill (A025), where a stone wall 0.7 m wide was visible. The path leading up the hill the east side, now planted with hazelnut trees, is littered with fragments of burnt mud plaster and pottery. On Mtisdzirisgora, we recorded a possible disturbed pithos burial, visible in an eroded scarp (A026) and a surface scatter of pottery and small cobbles just below the top of the hill (A027). As noted above, landslides have filled much of the valley between Adeishvilebisgora and Mtisdzirisgora. We climbed up Naktsevigora, the source of the landslides, but saw no ancient remains. In the area of Nashuebi, we picked up a 4th c. B.C. Thasian amphora toe on the west bank of the Tsabla Ghele (A029); this point also marks the general area in Nashuebi where a pit grave was accidentally found and excavations were carried out. In walking around Nabambevisgora, we found several pottery sherds on the east slope and fragments of burnt mud plaster on the north slope (A030) but nothing on the top of the hill, where lies a grassy meadow called the “Airport.” Further to the north at the base of the hill, in an area known as Nikuradzeebis Ubani (or Samkharadzeebis Ubani), our local informant told us that a number of pithos burials had been found (A028), but we observed no traces of ancient occupation in this area.

- Description:
- On the eastern edge of the modern town of Vani, just across the Sulori river from the town’s central traffic circle, lies a hill called Mshvidobisgora, the northeastern edge of which is crowned by a Mediaeval fortress. Mshvidobisgora comprises a long chain of hills rising to an elevation of 175 masl and oriented northwest-southeast, separating the right (east) bank of the Sulori from the Phasis river. The fortress is situated at the northeast edge of the westernmost hill in this chain. The fortress forms the focal point of a modern recreational park. It is roughly square in plan, oriented north-south, east-west, and is constructed of lime mortared rubble masonry, consisting mainly of smoothed cobblestones. All four of the walls are preserved to a height of about 1 m. The wall thickness is about 0.4 m. The length of the east wall is 3.25 m, while that of the south wall is 3.40 m. It is unclear whether a break approximately 1 m wide piercing the south wall near the southeast corner was once a doorway. The hill on which the fortress stands is visible due almost directly east from the “Stepped Altar” on the Middle Terrace at the site of Vani.

- This dataset consists of 11 linear external morphological measurements from 1,614 adult frog individuals from 434 species that all naturally occur in the Western Hemisphere. We used these data to investigate patterns of multidimensional morphospace structure in frog assemblages along the latitudinal diversity gradient in the Americas. The measured traits are predictive of adult microhabitat use, diel activity patterns, locomotion, mating habitat, and diet.

- Amyloid nanofibers are abundant in microorganisms and are integral components of many biofilms, serving various purposes, from virulent to structural. Nonetheless, the precise characterization of bacterial amyloid nanofibers has been elusive, with incomplete and contradicting results. The present work focuses on the molecular details and characteristics of PSMa1-derived functional amyloids present in Staphylococcus aureus biofilms, using a combination of computational and experimental techniques, to develop a model that can aid the design of compounds to control amyloid formation. Results from molecular dynamics simulations, guided and supported by spectroscopy and microscopy, show that PSMa1 amyloid nanofibers present a helical structure formed by two protofilaments, have an average diameter of about 12 nm, and adopt a left-handed helicity with a periodicity of approximately 72 nm. The chirality of the self-assembled nanofibers, an intrinsic geometric property of its constituent peptides, is central to determining the fibers' lateral growth.

- The global magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere (M-I-T) system is intrinsically coupled and susceptible to external drivers such as solar wind dynamic pressure enhancements. In order to understand the large-scale dynamic processes in the M-I-T system due to the compression from the solar wind, the 17 March 2015 sudden commencement was studied in detail using global numerical models. This data set is comprised of the simulation data generated from these models. and NOTE: The following changes were made to this dataset on March 28, 2018. First, two mp4 files were added. Second, the symbol representing "degree" was not rendering properly in the README file. The symbols were removed and replaced with the word "degree". Third, the metadata in the "methodology" and "description" fields were revised for content and clarity. On April 16, 2018 a citation to the corresponding article was added to the metadata record.

- Approximately 5.5 km south (and upstream) of Shuamta lies a sandstone quarry on the east (right) bank of the Qumuri River. The quarry sits at the confluence of the Qumuri and a small tributary stream. Pickmarks are preserved on some of the rock faces, although it is unclear whether these are ancient or modern. This stone resembles the material used in the Hellenistic temples and fortifications of Vani. Guram Kvirkvelia noted that local stone throughout the region was quarried to build the Hellenistic-period temples at Vani, though it is not possible to identify this quarry as one such source.

- Description:
- Data were collected while developing a management plan for eliminating nuisance algal blooms in a chain of reservoirs along the Huron River in southeastern Michigan. Federal funding was provided by both the U.S. EPA and the USDA. The river-reservoir system is used for municipal drinking water, wastewater disposal, irrigation, industrial processes, hydroelectric generation, sport fishing, and recreation. The impoundments episodically developed surface scums of cyanobacteria, contained microcystin toxins, and emitted foul odors including hydrogen sulfide. Past management strategy had focused on external phosphorus loading but failed to prevent nuisance conditions. Data collection and analysis pointed to the overwhelming role of internal nutrient loading and resulted in a series of whole lake experiments that destratified Ford Lake during summer and eliminated the nuisance conditions.

- ******Michigan Indoor Corridor 2012 Dataset****** This dataset is made available for research purpose only. Please contact Grace Tsai( gstsai@umich.edu) for any questions or comments. This dataset was used to produce the results in our IROS 2012 paper. If you use the data, please cite the following reference in your publications related to this work: Grace Tsai and Benjamin Kuipers Dynamic Visual Understanding of the Local Environment for an Indoor Navigating Robot International Conference on Intelligent Robots and Systems (IROS'12) October 2012 The dataset contains 4 video sequences acquired with camera mounted on a wheeled vehicle. The camera was set-up so that there was zero tilt and roll angle with respect to the ground. The camera has a fixed height (0.47 m) with the ground throughout the video. The intrinsic parameters of the cameras are: Focal length fc = [ 1389.182714 1394.598277 ] Principal point cc = [ 672.605430 387.235803 ] The distortion of the camera has been corrected. For each video sequences, an estimated camera pose in each frame of the video is provided in the file pose.txt. Each line in the file looks like: <frame index> <x (pose)> <y (pose)> <theta (pose)> Note the camera poses provided here are estimated by using an occupancy grid mapping algorithm with a laser range finder to obtain the robot pose. The dataset provides a ground truth labeling for all the pixels every 10 frames for each video. The labels of each frame is stored as a 2D matrix in a .mat file. The filename of each .mat file corresponds to the image frame. The labels can be interpreted as followed: -2 -> ceiling plane -1 -> ground plane >0 -> walls The labels of the walls are illustrated in a .pdf figure. Note the figure is only a illustration graph, not an actual floor plan.

This plot is part of the Smithsonian Institution's Forest Global Earth Observatory (ForestGEO) global network of forest research sites. https://forestgeo.si.edu/ and This dataset contains data on the leaf and root traits of several individuals from tree species, as well as on the soil properties at the Big Woods plots at the E.S. George Reserve, Pickney, MI. Data were collected in June 2019, and used to explain and predict the growth rates of the trees at Big Woods. [Growth data were obtained from Allen et al., 2019, https://doi.org/10.7302/wx55-kt18]. Each file contains data on leaf traits, root traits, and soil properties. Trait data are presented per individual tree for each of the 10 study species. Soil data are represented per soil sample, with four soil samples collected per subplot throughout the Big Woods plot (see legend, and publication for explanation). Descriptions and units per variable/column are provided in the legend tab in each file.

- Description:
- We use the MHD with embedded particle-in-cell model (MHD-EPIC) to study the Geospace Environment Modeling (GEM) dayside kinetic processes challenge event at 01:50-03:00 UT on 2015-11-18, when the magnetosphere was driven by a steady southward IMF. In the MHD-EPIC simulation, the dayside magnetopause is covered by a PIC code so that the dayside reconnection is properly handled. We compare the magnetic fields and the plasma profiles of the magnetopause crossing with the MMS3 spacecraft observations. Most variables match the observations well in the magnetosphere, in the magnetosheath, and also during the current sheet crossing. The MHD-EPIC simulation produces flux ropes, and we demonstrate that some magnetic field and plasma features observed by the MMS3 spacecraft can be reproduced by a flux rope crossing event. We use an algorithm to automatically identify the reconnection sites from the simulation results. It turns out that there are usually multiple X-lines at the magnetopause. By tracing the locations of the X-lines, we find the typical moving speed of the X-line endpoints is about 70~km/s, which is higher than but still comparable with the ground-based observations.

- Description:
- Magnetospheric sawtooth oscillations are observed during strong and steady solar wind driving conditions. The simulation results of our global MHD model with embedded kinetic physics show that when the total magnetic flux carried by constant solar wind exceeds a threshold, sawtooth-like magnetospheric oscillations are generated. Different from previous works, this result is obtained without involving time-varying ionospheric outflow in the model. The oscillation period and amplitude agree well with observations. The simulated oscillations cover a wide range of local times, although the distribution of magnitude as a function of longitude is different from observations. Our comparative simulations using ideal or Hall MHD models do not produce global time-varying features, which suggests that kinetic reconnection physics in the magnetotail is a major contributing factor to sawtooth oscillations.
