- We use our 1-D chemical diffusive model to quantify the physical processes necessary to interpret the day-side ionospheric measurements acquired with radio occultation techniques at the southern high-latitude region of Mars, where the crustal magnetic field is strong and near-vertical in orientation. To interpret the measured ionospheric structure at altitudes where plasma transport dominates, we find it is necessary to impose field-aligned vertical plasma drifts caused by the motion of neutral winds. The most interesting finding of this study is that both upward (between 110 m/s and 150 m/s) and downward (between -55 m/s and -120 m/s) drifts are required to maintain the topside Ne distribution comparable with the measured distribution. We also find that a fixed velocity boundary condition at the upper boundary with a sizeable upward ion velocity is needed to encounter any unexpected ion accumulation in the topside ionosphere to limit the Martian ion outflow. Given the complex nature of neutral dynamics and its relationship to plasma transport processes over magnetic anomalies, we consider that a simple model, such as we have developed, is still capable of yielding valuable insights relating to the neutral wind system at Mars.

- This dataset supports the findings of Hille et al. (2021, in review) in Geophysical Research Letters. In this article, we present a multivariate analysis of extreme storm events that occur during the Indian summer monsoon over the Himalayan Range in central Nepal. We resolve storm events at sub daily durations by merging NASA’s Global Precipitation Mission (GPM) Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for GPM (IMERG) 30-minute, gridded 0.1x0.1-degree precipitation product with local rain gauges operated by the Nepal Department of Hydrology and Meteorology (DHM) and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development (ICIMOD). We quantify spatial variability in extreme rainfall by isolating storms over a specific intensity threshold and pairing a principal components analysis with a K-means clustering approach to group storms of similar characteristics. and We find that frequent and intense storms occur over the forefront of the central Himalayan range and coincide with a locus of monsoon-driven landslide density. This pattern agrees with observations of elevated annual precipitation volumes near the Himalayan physiographic transition from low to high relief (Bookhagen and Burbank, 2010), and is consistent with orographically-influenced rainfall over other mountain ranges (Marra et al., 2021). In addition to presenting novel methodology to quantifying storm variability, our results highlight the strong orographic effect on precipitation intensity and duration, as well as an association of shallow bedrock landsliding frequency with intense precipitation.

- Description:
- Animals in nature use diverse strategies to evade or deter their predators, including many vivid behavioural displays only qualitatively described from field encounters with natural predators or humans. Within venomous snake mimicry, stereotyped anti-predator displays are suggested to be a critical component of the warning signal given by toxic models and thus under strong selection for independent convergence in mimetic species. However, no studies have systematically quantified variation in snake anti-predator displays across taxonomically broad clades to test how these behaviours evolve across species within a phylogenetic comparative methods framework. Here we describe a new, high-throughput approach for collecting and scoring snake anti-predator displays in the field that demonstrates both low observer bias and infinite extension across any species. Then, we show our method's utility in quantitatively comparing the behaviour of 20 highly-divergent snake species from the Amazonian lowlands of Peru. We found that a simple experimental setup varying simulated predator cues was very successful in eliciting anti-predator displays across species and that high-speed videography captured a greater diversity of behavioural responses than described in the literature. We also found that although different display components evolve at different rates with complicated patterns of covariance, there is clear evidence of evolutionary convergence in anti-predator displays among distantly related elapid coral snakes and their colubrid mimics. We conclude that our approach significantly advances opportunity for future analyses of snake behaviour, kinematics, and the evolution of anti-predator signals more generally, especially macroevolutionary analyses across clades with similarly intractable behavioural diversity.

- Magnetospheric sawtooth oscillations are observed during strong and steady solar wind driving conditions. The simulation results of our global MHD model with embedded kinetic physics show that when the total magnetic flux carried by constant solar wind exceeds a threshold, sawtooth-like magnetospheric oscillations are generated. Different from previous works, this result is obtained without involving time-varying ionospheric outflow in the model. The oscillation period and amplitude agree well with observations. The simulated oscillations cover a wide range of local times, although the distribution of magnitude as a function of longitude is different from observations. Our comparative simulations using ideal or Hall MHD models do not produce global time-varying features, which suggests that kinetic reconnection physics in the magnetotail is a major contributing factor to sawtooth oscillations.

- Jerboas (Jaculus jaculus) are bipedal hopping rodents that frequently transition between gaits (running, hopping, and skipping) throughout their entire speed range. It has been hypothesized that these non-cursorial bipedal gait transitions are likely to enhance their maneuverability and predator evasion ability. However, it is difficult to use the underlying dynamics of these locomotion patterns to predict gait transitions due to the large number of degrees of freedom expressed by the animals. To this end, we used empirical jerboa kinematics and dynamics to develop a unified Spring Loaded Inverted Pendulum model with defined passive swing leg motions. The simulated trajectories from the model precisely matched the experimental data. Jerboas were observed to apply different neutral swing leg angles during locomotion. By investigating the gait structure of the model with coupled and uncoupled neutral swing leg, we found two set of mechanism may explain the frequent gait transitions of jerboas.

- Understanding how phenotypes evolve requires disentangling the effects of mutation generating new variation from the effects of selection filtering it. Tests for selection frequently assume that mutation introduces phenotypic variation symmetrically around the population mean, yet few studies have tested this assumption by deeply sampling the distributions of mutational effects for particular traits. Here, we examine distributions of mutational effects for gene expression in the budding yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae by measuring the effects of thousands of point mutations introduced randomly throughout the genome. We find that the distributions of mutational effects differ for the ten genes surveyed and are inconsistent with normality. For example, all ten distributions of mutational effects included more mutations with large effects than expected for normally distributed phenotypes. In addition, some genes also showed asymmetries in their distribution of mutational effects, with new mutations more likely to increase than decrease the gene’s expression or vice versa. Neutral models of regulatory evolution that take these empirically determined distributions into account suggest that neutral processes may explain more expression variation within natural populations than currently appreciated.

- Our primary analysis is based on articles published in 2013 by the top thirteen US news outlets and two popular political blogs. To compile the set of articles published by these outlets, we first examined the complete web-browsing records for US-located users who installed the Bing Toolbar, an optional add-on application for the Internet Explorer web browser. For each of the fifteen news sites, we recorded all unique URLs that were visited by at least ten toolbar users, and we then crawled the news sites to obtain the full article title and text. This process resulted in a corpus of 803,146 articles published on the fifteen news sites over the course of a year, with each article annotated with its relative popularity. , Next, we built two binary classifiers using large-scale logistic regression. The first classifier—which we refer to as the news classifier —identifies “news” articles (i.e., articles that would typically appear in the front section of a traditional newspaper). The second classifier—the politics classifier —identifies political news from the subset of articles identified as news by the first classifier. 340,191 (42 percent) were classified as news. On the set of 340,191 news articles, 114,814 (34 percent) were classified as political. , Having identified approximately 115,000 political news articles, we next seek to categorize the articles by topic (e.g., gay rights, healthcare, etc.), and to quantify the political slant of the article. To do so, we turn to human judges recruited via Mechanical Turk to analyze the articles. For every day in 2013, we randomly selected two political articles, when available, from each of the 15 outlets we study, with sampling weights equal to the number of times the article was visited by our panel of toolbar users., Amazon Mechanical Turk Labeling task: To detect and control for possible preconceptions of an outlet’s ideological slant, workers, upon first entering the experiment, were randomly assigned to either a blinded or unblinded condition. In the blinded condition, workers were presented with only the article’s title and text, whereas in the unblinded condition, they were additionally shown the name of the outlet in which the article was published. Each article was then analyzed by two workers, one each from the sets of workers in the two conditions. For each article, each worker completed the following three tasks. First, they provided primary and secondary article classifications from a list of fifteen topics: (1) civil rights; (2) Democrat scandals; (3) drugs; (4) economy; (5) education; (6) elections; (7) environment; (8) gay rights; (9) gun-related crimes; (10) gun rights/regulation; (11) healthcare; (12) international news; (13) national security; (14) Republican scandals; and (15) other. , and Second, workers determined whether the article was descriptive news or opinion. Third, to measure ideological slant, workers were asked, “Is the article generally positive, neutral, or negative toward members of the Democratic Party?” and separately, “Is the article generally positive, neutral, or negative toward members of the Republican Party?” Choices for these last two questions were provided on a five-point scale: very positive, somewhat positive, neutral, somewhat negative, and very negative. To mitigate question-ordering effects, workers were initially randomly assigned to being asked either the Democratic or Republican party question first; the question order remained the same for any subsequent articles the worker rated. Finally, we assigned each article a partisanship score between –1 and 1, where a negative rating indicates that the article is net left-leaning and a positive rating indicates that it is net right-leaning. Specifically, for an article’s depiction of the Democratic Party, the five-point scale from very positive to very negative is encoded as –1, –0.5, 0, 0.5, 1. Analogously, for an article’s depiction of the Republican Party, the scale is encoded as 1, 0.5, 0, –.0.5, –1. The score for each article is defined as the average over these two ratings. Thus, an average score of –1, for example, indicates that the article is very positive toward Democrats and very negative toward Republicans. The result of this procedure is a large, representative sample of political news articles, with direct human judgments on partisanship and article topic.

- This repository includes the analysis code and raw data for a paper titled "Nanophotonic control of thermal emission under extreme temperatures in air, " in Nature Nanotechnology (see citation). In our work, well defined structure-color effects guided the design of a nanostructure containing stratified layers of two oxides, magnesium oxide (MgO) and barium zirco-hafnate (BaZr0.5Hf0.5O3 or BZHO). The repeating layers were tuned in such a way to manipulate incident infrared wavelengths. The infrared is the spectral range in which heat (in the form of electromagnetic radiation) is emitted from objects. Therefore, the nanostructure serves as a way to alter the thermal emission spectrum of hot objects, controlling how much heat can flow. This can have significant impacts on a range of technologies, such as thermal photovoltaics (TPVs), which generate electricity from the infrared light emission of hot objects (compared to visible light emission from the sun in solar photovoltaics). We envision that our MgO/BZHO nanostructure can be paired with a thermal emitter in TPV systems to beneficially manipulate the flow of infrared light, leading to more efficient electricity production. To characterize the thermal stability of this structure, we had to characterize the thermal stability and optical performance at room temperature and at 1100 °C. This lead us to conduct several experiments using ellipsometry, TEM, EDS, and FTIR.

- The sensitive measurement of specific protein biomarkers is important for medical diagnostics and research. However, existing methods for quantifying proteins use antibody probes that cannot distinguish between specific and nonspecific binding, limiting their sensitivity and specificity. This work establishes a method for distinguishing between specific binding to the target protein and nonspecific binding to assay surfaces using single-molecule kinetic measurements with dynamically binding probes. This is significant because it permits extremely sensitive protein measurements without requiring a high-affinity detection antibody or any washing steps, enabling streamlined and sensitive quantification of proteins even when no pair of high-quality, tightly binding antibodies is available.

The Spun documents and paragraphs are generated using the SpinBot tool ( https://spinbot.com/API). Each folder is divided in mg (i.e., machine generated through SpinBot) and og (i.e., original generated file), The human judgement folder contains the human evaluation between original and spun documents (sample). It also contains the answers (keys) and survey results. , The models folder contains the machine learning classifier models for each word embedding technique used (only for document split training). The models were exported using pickle (Python 3.6). The grid search for hyperparameter adjustments is described in the paper. , and The vector folders (train and test) contains the average of all word vectors for each document and paragraph. Each line has the number of dimensions of the word embeddings technique used (see paper for more details) followed by its respective class (i.e, label mg or og). Geotechnical observations of weathered rock across a tectonic and climatic gradient in Central Nepal

- These datasets support the findings of Medwedeff et al. (2021) in JGR: Earth Surface. In this article, we present seismic and geotechnical characterizations of the shallow subsurface across a 200 km by 50 km swath of the central Himalayan Range, in Nepal. By pairing widely-distributed 1D shear wave velocity surveys and engineering outcrop descriptions per the Geological Strength Index classification system, we evaluate landscape-scale patterns in near-surface mechanical characteristics and their relation to environmental factors known to affect rock strength. We find that near-surface strength is more dependent on the degree of weathering, rather than the mineral and textural differences between the metamorphic lithologies found in the central Himalaya. Furthermore, weathering varies systematically with topography. Bedrock ridge top sites are highly weathered and have S-wave seismic velocities and shear strength characteristics that are more typical of engineering soils, whereas sites near the bedrock channel bottom tend to be less weathered and characterized by high S-wave velocities and shear strength estimates typical of hard rock. Weathering of bedrock on hillslopes is significantly more variable, resulting in S-wave velocities that range between the ridge and channel endmembers. We hypothesize variability in the hillslope environment may be partly explained by the stochastic nature of mass wasting, which clears away weathered material where landslide scars are recent. These results underscore the mechanical heterogeneity in the shallow subsurface and highlight the need to account for bedrock weathering when estimating strength parameters for regional landslide hazard analysis.

- This data-set contains data used in the publication "Airborne Assessment of Methane Emissions from Offshore Platforms in the U.S. Gulf of Mexico" by Gorchov Negron et al. (2020). There are 46,032 rows and 45 columns in the data. and The aircraft sampled offshore facilities with two unique sampling strategies: facility-level samples and regional box samples. Gorchov Negron et al. used facility-level samples to calculate facility-level fluxes and regional box samples, in conjunction with vertical profiles, to calculate regional-level fluxes. Meteorological parameters in the data were evaluated to discern when assumptions for each method were met. The facility-level fluxes were used to generate a facility-level aerial measurement-based inventory that was scaled up for comparison with regional-level fluxes.

- Traces from single-molecule fluorescence microscopy (SMFM) experiments exhibit photophysical artifacts that typically necessitate human expert screening, which is time-consuming and introduces potential for user-dependent expectation bias. Here, we have used deep learning to develop a rapid, automatic SMFM trace selector, termed AutoSiM, that improves the sensitivity and specificity of an assay for a DNA point mutation based on single-molecule recognition through equilibrium Poisson sampling (SiMREPS). The improved performance of AutoSiM is based on accepting both more true positives and fewer false positives than the conventional approach of hidden Markov modeling (HMM) followed by thresholding. As a second application, the selector was used for automated screening of single-molecule Förster resonance energy transfer (smFRET) data to identify high-quality traces for further analysis, and achieves ~90% concordance with manual selection while requiring less processing time. AutoSiM can be adapted readily to novel datasets, requiring only modest Transfer Learning.

- Low-velocity accretionary wedges and sedimentary layers overlaying continental plates are widely observed in the subduction zones where historical large earthquakes have occurred. It was observed that rupture of the 2011 Mw 9.0 Tohoku-Oki earthquake propagated to the trench with large coseismic slip on the shallow fault, but what caused the huge shallow slip remains a prominent problem., Here we explore how the two low-velocity structures, accretionary wedge and sedimentary layer, affect the coseismic slip and near-fault ground motions during the 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake. Constrained by the observed seafloor deformation, we present a 2-D dynamic rupture model of the 2011 Tohoku-Oki earthquake with an accretionary wedge and a sedimentary layer. Compared to a homogeneous model with the same friction and stress parameters on the fault, we find that the co-existence of the accretionary wedge and sedimentary layer significantly enhances the shallow coseismic slip and amplifies ground accelerations near the accretionary wedge. We then investigate a plausible scenario of a smaller Tohoku-Oki earthquake when its rupture does not reach the accretionary wedge. The sedimentary layer slightly enhances the coseismic slip while the accretionary wedge has almost no influence for the smaller earthquake scenario, but both structures significantly amplify the ground accelerations on the overriding plate. , and By simulating a suite of earthquake scenarios, we suggest that the co-existence of an accretionary wedge and sedimentary layers tend to enhance coseismic slip, but the enhancement effect decreases as the up-dip limit of rupture zones terminates at a larger depth. The numerical simulations were solved using SEM2DPACK _2.3.8 ( http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/sem2d/), and simulation results were visualized by Matlab. - Precipitation impacts on ice cover and water temperature in the Laurentian Great Lakes were examined using state-of-art coupled ice-hydrodynamic models. Numerical experiments were conducted for the recent anomalously cold (2014-2015) and warm (2015-2016) winters that were accompanied by high and low ice coverage over the lakes, respectively. The results of numerical experiments showed that, snow cover on the ice, which is the manifestation of winter precipitation, reduced the total ice volume (or mean ice thickness) in all of the Great Lakes, shortened the ice duration, and allowed earlier warming of water surface. The reduced ice volume was due to the thermal insulation of snow cover. The surface albedo was also increased by snow cover, but its impact on the delay the melting of ice was overcome by the thermal insulation effect. During major snowstorms, snowfall over the open lake caused notable cooling of the water surface due to latent heat absorption. Overall, the sensible heat flux from rain in spring and summer was found to have negligible impacts on the water surface temperature. Although uncertainties remain in over-lake precipitation estimates and model’s representation of snow on the ice, this study demonstrated that winter precipitation, particularly snowfall on the ice and water surfaces, is an important contributing factor in Great Lakes ice production and thermal conditions from late fall to spring.

- Scientists often try to reproduce observations with a model, helping them explain the observations by adjusting known and controllable features within the model. They then use a large variety of metrics for assessing the ability of a model to reproduce the observations. One such metric is called the relative operating characteristic (ROC) curve, a tool that assesses a model’s ability to predict events within the data. The ROC curve is made by sliding the event-definition threshold in the model output, calculating certain metrics and making a graph of the results. Here, a new model assessment tool is introduced, called the sliding threshold of observation for numeric evaluation (STONE) curve. The STONE curve is created by sliding the event definition threshold not only for the model output but also simultaneously for the data values. This is applicable when the model output is trying to reproduce the exact values of a particular data set. While the ROC curve is still a highly valuable tool for optimizing the prediction of known and pre-classified events, it is argued here that the STONE curve is better for assessing model prediction of a continuous-valued data set. and Data and code were created using IDL, but can also be accessed with the open-source Gnu Data Language (GDL; see https://github.com/gnudatalanguage/gdl)

- The NASA MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) spacecraft, which is currently in orbit around Mars, has been taking daily (systematic) measurements of the densities and temperatures in the upper atmosphere of Mars between about 140 to 240 km above the surface. Wind measurement campaigns are also conducted once per month for 5-10 orbits. These densities, temperatures and winds change with time (e.g. season, local time) and location, and sometimes fluctuate quickly. Global dust storm events are also known to significantly impact these density, temperature and wind fields in the Mars thermosphere. Such global dust storm period measurements can be compared to simulations from a computer model of the Mars atmosphere called M-GITM (Mars Global Ionosphere-Thermosphere Model), developed at U. of Michigan. This is the first detailed comparison between direct global dust storm period measurements in the upper atmosphere of Mars and simulated MGITM fields and is important because it can help to inform us what physical processes are acting on the upper atmosphere during such large dust events. Since the global circulation plays a role in the structure, variability, and evolution of the atmosphere, understanding the processes that drive the winds in the upper atmosphere of Mars also provides key context for understanding how the atmosphere behaves as a whole system. A basic version of the M-GITM code can be found on Github as follows: https:/github.com/dpawlows/MGITM and About 4 months of Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer (NGIMS) measurements of densities and winds have been made by the MAVEN team during the summer of 2018 (Elrod et al., 2019). The Mars conditions for these nine intervals have been used to launch corresponding M-GITM code simulations, yielding 3-D neutral density, temperature and wind fields for comparison to these NGIMS measurements. The M-GITM datacubes used to extract the density, temperature and neutral winds, along the trajectory of each orbit path between 140 and 240 km, are provided in this Deep Blue Data archive. README files are provided for each datacube, detailing the contents of each file. A general README file is also provided that summarizes the inputs and outputs of the M-GITM code simulations for this study.

- The Multifaceted Optimization Algorithm (MOA) is a tool for generating corrected empirical model thermospheric densities during geomagnetic storms. It consists of a suite of Python functions that operate around the Spacecraft Orbit Characterization Kit (SpOCK), an orbital propagator developed by Charles D. Bussy-Virat, PhD, Joel Getchius, and Aaron J. Ridley, PhD at the University of Michigan, and it estimates new densities for the NRLMSISE-00 atmospheric model. MOA generates new model densities by estimating modifications to inputs to the NLRMSISE-00 model that minimize the orbit error between modeled spacecraft in SpOCK, and their actual altitudes as described in publicly-available Two-Line Element Sets (TLEs), made available online via Space-track.org. MOA consists of three sub-process: (1) The Area Optimization Algorithm (AROPT), (2) the F10.7 Optimization Algorithm (FOPT), and (3) the Ap Optimization Algorithm (APOPT). AROPT computes the contribution to the drag of the modeled spacecraft due to their varying projected area. FOPT estimates modifications to the 10.7 cm solar radio flux in NRLMSISE-00, and APOPT estimates modifications to the Earth's magnetic activity in NRLMSISE-00. MOA finds these modifications across many spacecraft, and the medians of those modifications are then applied in NLRMSISE-00 along the orbit of another satellite to generate new densities for verification. In this instance, modifications are applied along the orbits of the Swarm spacecraft and compared to Swarm GPS-derived densities.

- Our work seeks to better understand the financial risks to corporate operations as a basis for exploring alternative public-private investment strategies. We applied network analysis to model financial relationships within this sector and its connectedness to primary commodities transported on the Great Lakes. The financial network maps were used to quantitatively analyze the industry risk exposure using corporate financial metrics and to query the financial interdependencies of companies relative to the Great Lakes waterway. Results demonstrate that inventory turnover ratio is a robust proxy to quantify weighted financial risks of water dependency across the entire supply chain network. All data was manually collected from the Bloomberg Terminal and FactSet which are licensed by the University of Michigan. The SPLC module in the Terminal restricts data download and information must be captured manually. All data was collected from September-November 2018.

These energetic electrons emit radio waves as they traverse Earth's magnetosphere, leading to short‐lived, strong radio emissions from local regions, as well as persistent weaker emissions that act as a global signature of the population breakdown of all the energetic electrons. Characterizing this weaker emission (Synchrotron Emission) would lead to a greater understanding of the energetic electron populations on a day to day level. A radio array on the near side of the Moon would always be facing the Earth, and would well suited for measuring its low frequency radio emissions. In this work we simulate such a radio array on the lunar near side, to image this weaker synchrotron emission. The specific geometry and location of the test array were made using the most recent lunar maps made by the Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter. This array would give us unprecedented day to day knowledge of the electron environment around our planet, providing reports of Earth's strong and weak radio emissions, giving both local and global information. , This set of codes should guide you through making the figures in the paper, as well as hopefully being accessible enough for changing the code for your own array. - Interest in quantitative imaging of Y-90 is growing because transarterial radioembolization (RE) with Y-90 loaded microspheres is a promising and minimally invasive treatment that is FDA approved for unresectable primary and metastatic liver tumors. These cancers are a leading cause of cancer mortality and morbidity. Radioembolization is a therapy that irradiates liver tumors with radioactive microspheres administered through a microcatheter placed in the hepatic arterial vasculature. Radioembolization is based on the principle that healthy liver and tumor are mainly vascularized by the portal vein and the hepatic artery respectively. As a result, radioactive microspheres are preferentially located in the lesions after they are administered via the hepatic artery.

Using the Community Coordinated Modeling Center’s Run-on-Request system and extensive database on results from various magnetospheric scenarios simulated for a variety of solar wind conditions, the aforementioned model predictions have been compared for magnetopause standoff distance estimations obtained from six empirical models, and with cross polar cap potential estimations obtained from the Assimmilative Mapping of Ionospheric Electrodynamics (AMIE) Model and the Super Dual Auroral Radar Network (SuperDARN) observations. We have considered a range of events spanning different space weather activity to analyze the performance of these models. Using a fit performance metric analysis for each event, we have quantified the models’ reproducibility of magnetopause standoff distances and CPCP against empirically-predicted observations, and identified salient features that govern the performance characteristics of the modeled magnetospheric and ionospheric quantities.

- We created various files, including GIS files and data files for both the UM Hydrologic Modeling Team and for our own Escherichia coli sampling project. The UM Hydrologic Team used the files we created to make their models more accurate. For example, we edited Clinton River subwatershed files to better reflect below and above-ground infrastructure, and provided them to the modeling team. For our own E. coli subproject we created time series, GIS files, and R code to better understand the influence of precipitation and streamflow on E. coli dynamics. Our time-series data is based on baseline and storm sampling we conducted in the summer of 2021. We used GIS files to explore the subwatersheds of our E. coli sampling locations. Finally, we created R code to help us visualize and analyze the data.

These UV cone nuclei are labelled by transgenic expression of a fluorescent reporter (that is photoconvertible). The most important data are: 1. The zoomed-in (4X magnification) images of UV cone nuclei immediately after photoconversion 2. The zoomed-in (4X magnification) images of UV cone nuclei 2-4 days after photoconversion Also included is code for segmenting UV cone nuclei (both in image from immediately after photoconversion and in image from days later) and for shifting and rotating the two images to maximally align corresponding UV cone nuclei. After aligning corresponding UV cones, we compute triangulations over UV cone nuclei positions (for both images) and identify bonds that are common to both images. We use these common bonds to calculate the lattice vectors for the UV cone lattice.

The purpose of the study was to demonstrate the first-ever simultaneous brain-control of two independent groups of fingers in one hand with some analysis of cortical tuning to finger movements in nonhuman primates. This advises future brain-machine interfaces for the control of finger movements with humans. All of the data is contained in .mat files, which can be commonly opened by Matlab and the Python scipy library.
