Realm 1: Field Survey and Site Collections
User Collection- Creator:
- Galaty, Michael
- Description:
- The PASH Data Collection is comprised of Five data “realms”: 1) Survey and site data, 2) Settlement excavations, 3) Tumulus (burial mound) survey and excavations, 4) Artifact analysis, and 5) Geological data. All databases, field notebooks, paper maps, GIS files, photographs, and photo descriptions related to the intensive survey, of tracts and tumuli, and the collection of sites have been made available in PASH Deep Blue Data Realm 1 (this sub-collection)., Over the course of five years, 11 field teams (Teams A–K) surveyed 2530 tracts in Shkrel and Shtoj, covering 16.1 km2. Survey data were eventually collapsed into six geographic zones (1–6). All tracts were surveyed using standard Mediterranean survey methods. For each tract (recorded consecutively by team letter and a number, e.g. A-001, A-002, etc.), surveyors walked at 15-m intervals and counted all tile/brick, ceramic fragments, and small finds. We conducted a full-coverage survey, meaning that all land forms—including fields, hills, and terraces—in each survey zone were surveyed, unless the landowner objected or the vegetation was so dense as to render survey impossible. Each tract was photographed and a GPS point at the center of the tract was obtained. Photos and photo descriptions were maintained in separate databases by each team. Information about tracts was recorded by hand in notebooks by team leaders. This included data about a tract’s soil, geology, ground cover (plants growing in the tract, crops planted in the field), associated structures, associated archaeological features (including tumuli), informant testimony, visibility, and, most critically, artifact counts. , and Realm 1 is divided into two sub-collections: Survey Data and Site Data. Both sub-collections are organized by data type. Survey data includes Tract photos and Photologs, Survey maps, Spatial data files, and a Collection Unit (CU) survey database. Site Data includes the Site database, Site documentation, Site photos and Photologs, and Spatial data files.

- The data deposited here is as follows: The clinical shedding/symptom data, RNAseq, steroid, and wearable E4 data was partially presented in publications [1]-[3] and the cognitive lumos and VAFS data is presented in the paper [4], which is under review and embargoed. The data files are: subject.json, sample.json, and genematrix_TPM.csv. In addition, a copy of the blank consent form used to enroll volunteers in the study is included (17964_Adult Consent_2015Mar17-Mod 1_clean.pdf)., Clinical symptom and viral shedding data (in subject.json): reports each subject's accumulated and maximum self-reported symptom score (modified Jackson score) and shedding titrations from nasal-pharyngeal washes after inoculation. , RNAseq data (genematrix_TMP.csv): Whole blood was collected in PAXgene™ Blood RNA tubes (PreAnalytiX), and total RNA extracted using the PAXgene™ Blood miRNA Kit (QIAGEN) using the manufacturer’s recommended protocol. RNA quantity and quality were assessed using Nanodrop 2000 spectrophotometer (Thermo-Fisher) and Bioanalyzer 2100 with RNA 6000 Nano Chips (Agilent). RNA sequencing libraries were prepared using Illumina TruSeq mRNA Library Kit with RiboZero Globin depletion, and sequenced on an Illumina NextSeq sequencer with 50bp paired-end reads (target 40M reads per sample). After demultiplexing to FASTQ paired-end read counts files, the 396 samples were TPM transformed using HISAT2 software with the reference genome Homo_sapiens.GRCh38.84. Each sample corresponds to one of the 18 subjects at one of 22 time points. One of these samples was of insufficient quality to be mapped to read counts. In addition to the TPM normalized RNAseq data contained in this repository, the raw FASTQ data for the 395 samples are deposited in the GEO repository ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/geo), Accession # GSE215087. , Cognitive data (sample.json): Outcomes from a NeuroCognitive Performance Test (NCPT) that was taken approximately 3 time daily by all volunteers. The NCPT is a repeatable, web-based, computerized, cognitive assessment platform designed to measure subtle changes in performance across multiple cognitive domains. Subject scores along 18 cognitive variables data were collected at approximated 22 time points during the challenge study. The data structure sample.json contains the raw cognitive data and the extracted 18 cognitive scores over time for each subject. , The Visual Analog Fatigue Scale (sample.json): the VAFS is a measure of cognitive fatigue that was measured approximately 3 times per day at the same time as the NCPT and blood draw. , Wearable device data (sample.json): participants wore an Empatica E4 device for the duration of the challenge study. Summarized features are provided for each subject that include sleep duration (mean and std), sleep offset (mean and std), and temperature (mean and std). , Steroid data was also collected and is included in the sample.json. This steroid data was collected from the whole blood samples and consists of cortisol, melatonin, and DHEAS. , and See README.txt for more specific details on the data structures contained in the sample.json, subject.json, and genematrix_TPM.csv files.

- Description:
- Nitrogen availability is hypothesized to play a central role in cyanoHAB progression, as well as production of the N-rich toxin microcystin. Recent work implicated reduced N substrates like ammonium and dissolved organic N (DON) in promoting greater bloom biomass and longevity. To examine the relative importance of oxidized and reduced N substrates to phytoplankton during different bloom stages, we measured concentrations and natural abundance δ15N isotope values of dissolved N substrates and phytoplankton biomass throughout the entirety of the 2020 cyanoHAB in Western Lake Erie. This is the first data on DON concentrations and isotope values in Western Lake Erie. We measured nitrate concentrations and isotope values to compare with DON and also with particulate organic matter (POM) 15N isotope values. This dataset is described and analyzed in the publication, "Patterns in sources and forms of nitrogen during a freshwater cyanobacterial harmful algal bloom".

Dynamical Heating in the Martian Thermosphere: Temperatures, Winds and Thermal Balances using M-GITM
- Creator:
- Bougher, S. W. and Pilinski, M. D.
- Description:
- The NASA MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) spacecraft, which is currently in orbit around Mars, has been taking systematic measurements of the densities and deriving temperatures in the upper atmosphere of Mars (between about 140 to 240 km above the surface) since late 2014. Wind measurement campaigns have also been conducted once per month for 5-10 orbits since 2016. These densities, temperatures and winds change with time (e.g. solar cycle, season, local time) and location, and sometimes fluctuate quickly. Global dust storm events are also known to significantly impact these density, temperature and wind fields in the Mars thermosphere. For the current project, in-situ measured winds and corresponding argon density derived temperatures are combined to trace the circulation patterns and investigate their convergence and divergence locations and impacts throughout the Mars thermosphere. M-GITM computed thermal balance terms are subsequently extracted to investigate the processes required to maintain the temperature distribution around the planet. For this work, Mars Year #33 (MY33) Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer (NGIMS) measurements have been obtained by the MAVEN team for this purpose (see these representative works: (Bougher et al., 2017; Stone et al., 2018; Benna et al., 2019). These temperature and wind fields are compared to simulations from a computer model of the Mars atmosphere called M-GITM (Mars Global Ionosphere-Thermosphere Model), developed at U. of Michigan. Since the global circulation plays a role in the structure, variability, and evolution of the atmosphere, understanding the processes that drive the winds in the upper atmosphere of Mars also provides the needed context for understanding temperature distributions and underlying thermal balances throughout the atmosphere. Three dimensional M-GITM simulations for three of the four Mars cardinal seasons (Ls = 0, 90, 270) for MY33 were conducted for detailed comparisons with NGIMS temperature and wind distributions (Pilinski et al. 2022). Corresponding M-GITM datacubes used to extract these temperatures (plus winds) along the trajectory of each orbit path between 140 and 240 km, are provided in this Deep Blue Data archive. A single README file is included that details the contents of each datacube file. In addition, this general README file summarizes the inputs and outputs of each M-GITM simulation interval used for this study. Finally, a basic version of the M-GITM code can be found on Github at https:/github.com/dpawlows/MGITM.

- Description:
- Production of hydrogen fuel from sunlight and water offers one of the most promising pathways for carbon neutrality. Some solar hydrogen production approaches, e.g., photoelectrochemical water splitting, often requires corrosive electrolyte, limiting their performance stability and environmental sustainability. Alternatively, clean hydrogen can be produced directly from tap water, or seawater by wireless photocatalytic water splitting. The solar-to-hydrogen (STH) efficiency, however, is still lower than 3%. Herein, we have developed a unique strategy to overcome the efficiency bottleneck. A high STH efficiency of 9.2% was achieved by utilizing pure water, concentrated solar light, and visible-light-responsive InGaN photocatalyst. The success of this strategy was explained by the synergistic effects of promoting forward hydrogen-oxygen evolution and inhibiting the reverse hydrogen-oxygen recombination by operating at an optimal reaction temperature (~70 °C). Such an optimal temperature can be readily achieved by harvesting the previously wasted infrared light of the solar spectrum without other energy consumption. This temperature-dependent strategy also leads to the STH efficiencies of ~7% from the widely available tap water and seawater. A large-scale photocatalytic water splitting system with a natural solar light capacity of 257 W on a 4 cm × 4 cm photocatalyst wafer achieves a STH of 6.2% at ~70 oC. Our study offers a practical approach to produce hydrogen fuel efficiently from natural solar and water, overcoming some of the major barriers for green hydrogen economy.

- In this work, we perform Global Sensitivity Analysis (GSA) for the background solar wind in order to quantify contributions from uncertainty of different model parameters to the variability of in-situ solar wind speed and density at 1au, both of which have a major impact on CME propagation and strength. Scripts written in the Julia language are used to build the PCE and calculate the sensitivity results. Data is available in csv, NetCDF and JLD files. - Understanding the state and composition of an exoplanetary atmosphere depends upon several parameters such as heating, cooling, mixing and reactions between constituent chemical species. Only a few types of atmospheric species can be detected remotely spectroscopically and only if their abundance is large enough to be detectable. In this initial study, we model the atmosphere of a Venus-like planet orbiting the M-type star GJ 436 to determine the global neutral temperature structure, winds, and energy balance as the radial distance of the planet from the star decreases.

- The data represents weekly output from three 60-year CAM6 model runs. The output includes state (.h0. files) and tendency (.h1. files) fields for three difference model configurations of increasing complexity. State fields include temperature, surface pressure, specific humidity, among others; while tendencies include temperature tendencies, specific humidity tendencies, as well as precipitation rates. Using the state variables at a given time step, machine learning techniques can be trained to predict the following tendency field, which can then be applied to the state variables to provide the state at the next physics time step of the model.

- This data set includes text files (.csv files) for the bioinformatic annotation of SMR genes found in a dataset of phylogenetically diverse bacterial genomes. Bioinformatic analysis includes genome mining to identify SMR genes, prediction of the functional transporter subtype, and prediction of the direction of insertion in the bacterial membrane. Research overview: This bioinformatic dataset was prepared for a review on the structures, functions, and occurrence of Small Multidrug Resistance (SMR) Transporters. This dataset includes bioinformatic annotation of SMR genes identified in bacterial genomes from the Joint Genome Institute’s curated set of ~1000 Genomic Encyclopedia of Bacteria and Archaea (GEBA) genomes. The file GEBA_SMR_annotation.csv provides NCBI identification information (genome, species and chromosome information, locus tag, translation) and bioinformatic predictions of the SMR subtype and membrane insertion direction for each gene identified in the GEBA genome set. The file GEBA_SMR_species_table.csv has a separate entry for species in the GEBA genome set, along with the bioinformatic prediction of SMR subtype and membrane insertion direction for each SMR gene identified in the genome of that species. Dataset was generated by Christian B. Macdonald and Randy B. Stockbridge (Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI, 48019) Generation of this dataset was supported by National Institutes of Health grants R35-GM128768 to Randy B. - Key Points: - We provide a dataset obtained from iEEG - A total of 5 participants completed the tasks that involved an audio-visual spatial memory task with memory associated sounds played during sleep. - The data is fully preprocessed and ready for analysis in three unique frequency bands; Theta (4-8Hz), sigma (12-16Hz), and gamma (20-100Hz). We followed up by testing low gamma (20-50 Hz), mid-gamma (50-80 Hz), and high gamma (80-100 Hz) as well as a separate ripple analysis. and Research Overview: Here, we investigated overnight memory change by measuring electrical activity in and near the hippocampus. Electroencephalographic (EEG) recordings were made in five patients from electrodes implanted to determine whether a surgical treatment could relieve their seizure disorders. One night, while each patient slept in a hospital monitoring room, we recorded electrophysiological responses to 10-20 specific sounds that were presented very quietly, to avoid arousal. Half of the sounds had been associated with objects and their precise spatial locations that patients learned before sleep. After sleep, we found systematic improvements in spatial recall, replicating prior results. We assume that when the sounds were presented during sleep, they reactivated and strengthened corresponding spatial memories. Notably, the sounds also elicited oscillatory intracranial EEG activity, including increases in theta, sigma, and gamma EEG bands. Gamma responses, in particular, were consistently associated with the degree of improvement in spatial memory exhibited after sleep. We thus conclude that this electrophysiological activity in the hippocampus and adjacent medial temporal cortex reflects sleep-based enhancement of memory storage.

- To produce this dataset, three modes of the flywheel were tested. The first was with the flywheel off, which produced a baseline for roll without stabilization. The second mode was active stabilization with the flywheel spinning. An IMU on board took in roll in degrees. An Arduino uno used the roll angle to precess the flywheel to a degree that countered the roll. The last mode was passive stabilization with the flywheel on. Here, the precession belt was removed which allowed the flywheel to freely precess and counter the moment generated by the roll.

- Phthalates are chemicals found in many products that humans are exposed to. Prenatal exposure to phthalates has been associated with adverse outcomes that are detected in childhood, adolescence, and even adulthood. In this study, we sought to identify subtle biological changes in the metabolome of children that were exposed to phthalates during gestation. We hypothesized that prenatal phthalate exposures would alter metabolic pathways related to adiposity and cardiometabolic health. The article is under review (citation to be added when paper is published). The data included here encompass all exposure, demographic, and untargeted metabolomics data needed for the analysis described in the manuscript.

- This repository includes the analysis code and raw data for a paper titled "Nanophotonic control of thermal emission under extreme temperatures in air, " in Nature Nanotechnology (see citation). In our work, well defined structure-color effects guided the design of a nanostructure containing stratified layers of two oxides, magnesium oxide (MgO) and barium zirco-hafnate (BaZr0.5Hf0.5O3 or BZHO). The repeating layers were tuned in such a way to manipulate incident infrared wavelengths. The infrared is the spectral range in which heat (in the form of electromagnetic radiation) is emitted from objects. Therefore, the nanostructure serves as a way to alter the thermal emission spectrum of hot objects, controlling how much heat can flow. This can have significant impacts on a range of technologies, such as thermal photovoltaics (TPVs), which generate electricity from the infrared light emission of hot objects (compared to visible light emission from the sun in solar photovoltaics). We envision that our MgO/BZHO nanostructure can be paired with a thermal emitter in TPV systems to beneficially manipulate the flow of infrared light, leading to more efficient electricity production. To characterize the thermal stability of this structure, we had to characterize the thermal stability and optical performance at room temperature and at 1100 °C. This lead us to conduct several experiments using ellipsometry, TEM, EDS, and FTIR.

- The survey data used in this project is from two larger overarching projects titled the Rice Preferences Study and the Black Student Success Study. The Rice Preferences Study began with a sample of 661 entering undergraduates matriculating in August of 2016. This was 66.7% of the entering class, randomly selected. Of that sample, 553 completed the study with an 83.7% response rate. Prior to coming to campus in fall 2016 Rice students were given a battery of incentivized preference measures including risk aversion, loss aversion, altruism, in-group favoritism, time discounting, competitiveness, and so on. Over the subsequent four years that group was tested with new and repeated measures, in two to four tests per year. As a basis for comparison, each year a smaller sample (between 112 And 148) was drawn from incoming classes and tested with the same instruments. The remaining students from the Class of 2020 who had never been tested were invited in March 2020 to complete the initial study (259 of 376 completed the study). In March 2020, as Rice University closed, the team joined together to build a COVID module for the long-term Rice panel, as well as the other members of the Class of 2020. A total of 670 participated in this wave (67.1% of the graduating class). The Black Student Success Study recruited samples from PVAMU and TAMU in 2017 and again in 2019. This study aimed at understanding the effects of stereotype threat on Black student success in two different university environments in Texas: PVAMU, a historically Black university with about 9,000 students, 65% female, and 83% Black; and TAMU, a large state university with about 70,000 students, 47% female and 3.7% Black. That study was ongoing in 2020 when COVID struck. A total of 880 subjects responded to the initial survey out of a total of 3,709 who were contacted. Black subjects were over-sampled at TAMU, and constituted 37% of the TAMU sample. Respondents completed a one-hour survey that included measures of identity, non-cognitive skills, stereotype-threat vulnerability, and controls for economic preferences (survey measures) and family background. They were paid $20 for completing the study. In March 2020 additional funding was awarded through NSF to expand and follow the Rice, TAMU and PVAMU panels, focusing on the impact of COVID-19.

- Social media data offer a rich resource for researchers interested in public health, labor economics, politics, social behaviors, and other topics. However, scale and anonymity mean that researchers often cannot directly get permission from users to collect and analyze their social media data. This article applies the basic ethical principle of respect for persons to consider individuals’ perceptions of acceptable uses of data. We compare individuals' perceptions of acceptable uses of other types of sensitive data, such as health records and individual identifiers, with their perceptions of acceptable uses of social media data. Our survey of 1018 people shows that individuals think of their social media data as moderately sensitive and agree that it should be protected. Respondents are generally okay with researchers using their data in social research but prefer that researchers clearly articulate benefits and seek explicit consent before conducting research. We argue that researchers must ensure that their research provides social benefits worthy of individual risks and that they must address those risks throughout the research process.

- This study investigated co-occurrence among food addiction (FA), problematic substance use (alcohol, cannabis, cigarettes, nicotine vaping), parental history of problematic alcohol use, and obesity. Participants (n=357) completed self-report measures on food addiction, personal substance use, and parental history of alcohol use. Participants also completed demographic questions and self-reported height and weight were used to calculate BMI. Pearson zero-order correlations were conducted to identify sociodemographic covariates (socioeconomic status, age, and sex at birth). Modified Poisson regression (with robust standard error estimations) were used to estimate risk ratios among food addiction, parental history of problematic alcohol use, personal substance use (alcohol, cannabis, cigarettes, nicotine vaping), and obesity. Significance was set at p<.05. However, given multiple testing, 99% CI estimates are reported in the final manuscript instead of 95% CI estimates. Unadjusted and adjusted (for sociodemographic covariates) analyses were conducted. Risk of food addiction was higher in participants with problematic alcohol, smoking, vaping, parental history of problematic alcohol use, and (in unadjusted only) cannabis use. Risk of food addiction was only higher in participants with obesity after adjusting for covariates. Obesity was not significantly associated with problematic substance use and parental history or problematic alcohol use. Thus, food addiction, but not obesity, co-occurred with problematic substance use and a family history of problematic alcohol use. Results support the conceptualization of food addiction as an addictive disorder.

- This study investigated the mediating role of emotion dysregulation in the association between childhood trauma and food addiction. Participants (n=310) completed self-report measures of food addiction, childhood trauma experiences, emotion dysregulation, and demographic variables. Pearson zero-order correlations were conducted to identify potential covariates. Age, socioeconomic status, BMI, and education were significantly associated with study variables and were included as covariates in analyses. Moderated mediational analyses were used to investigate whether DERS (emotion regulation) mediated the association between the CTQ (childhood trauma) and YFAS2.0 (food addiction) and to explore whether gender identity (men vs women) moderated this association. Emotion dysregulation partially mediated associations between food addiction and childhood trauma. Gender moderated associations between childhood trauma and emotion dysregulation as well as childhood trauma and food addiction. Both moderating pathways were significantly stronger for men compared to women. Results suggest that emotion dysregulation may be an important mediating factor in the association between childhood trauma and food addiction, particularly for men.

- Description:
- Contemporary material characterisation techniques that leverage deformation fields and the weak form of the equilibrium equations face challenges in the numerical solution procedure of the inverse characterisation problem. As material models and descriptions differ, so too must the approaches for identifying parameters and their corresponding mechanisms. The widely-used Ogden material model can be comprised of a chosen number of terms of the same mathematical form, which presents challenges of parsimonious representation, interpretability, and stability. Robust techniques for system identification of any material model are important to assess and improve experimental design, in addition to their centrality to forward computations. Using fully 3D displacement fields acquired in silicone elastomers with our recently-developed magnetic resonance cartography (MR-u) technique on the order of ~20,000 points per sample, we leverage PDE-constrained optimisation as the basis of variational system identification of our material parameters. We incorporate the statistical F-test to maintain parsimony of representation. Using a new, local deformation decomposition locally into mixtures of biaxial and uniaxial tensile states, we evaluate experiments based on an analytical sensitivity metric, and discuss the implications for experimental design. This repository contains the acquired data and MRI processing code used in this work.

- Description:
- In order to better understand the large-scale impacts of smaller-scale gravity waves in the upper atmosphere of Mars, a modern whole atmosphere, nonlinear, non-orographic, spectral gravity wave parameterization scheme (Yigit et al., 2008) has been added to the ground-to-exosphere 3-D general circulation model, M-GITM (Bougher et al., 2015), which previously did not account for the effects of this physical process. New atmospheric simulations have been run for cases which did and did not utilize this gravity wave parameterization as well as for cases designed to test the sensitivity of certain adjustable parameters within the scheme. After including the gravity wave parameterization scheme into M-GITM, large impacts are found on the simulated mean thermospheric horizontal velocities and temperature structure, especially within the altitude range of 90-170 km (Roeten et al., 2022). The most notable of these impacts include a reduction in speed of the thermospheric easterlies in the summer hemisphere as well as overall cooling, on average, at altitudes above 120 km., Simulations were run for two different seasons at Mars, a solstice (Ls=270) and an equinox (Ls=180). The output from these simulations have been averaged over all local times over a 15-day time period, starting on the day of the solstice or equinox. The output has also been zonally averaged over all longitudes. Files containing these zonally and temporally averaged files are named starting with “MGITM_ZonalAvg”. Both solstice and equinox cases have been simulated once without including the gravity wave parameterization (“nogw”) and once with the gravity wave parameterization included (“withgw”). Additional simulations of the Ls=270 solstice have been done individually adjusting the horizontal wavelength and maximum source flux parameters within the gravity wave scheme. , and Other M-GITM simulations have also been provided in a different format. These M-GITM simulations are ‘flythroughs’ of model output, extracted along the same trajectory path of the MAVEN spacecraft, which allows for better data-model comparisons with in-situ MAVEN/NGIMS (Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer) observations. These simulations have been done for three different NGIMS observational campaigns, both for cases that include and do not include the effects of gravity waves. Output from these simulations has NOT been averaged; instead, output from each simulated MAVEN orbit is included within the file. These files are named starting with “MGITM_TempExtraction” or “MGITM_WindExtraction” based on whether the MGITM flythrough was designed to be compared to MAVEN/NGIMS temperature or wind profiles, respectively.

- Description:
- The NASA MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) spacecraft, which is currently in orbit around Mars, has been taking systematic measurements of the densities and deriving temperatures in the upper atmosphere of Mars between about 140 to 240 km above the surface since late 2014. Wind measurement campaigns are also conducted once per month for 5-10 orbits. These densities, temperatures and winds change with time (e.g. solar cycle, season, local time) and location, and sometimes fluctuate quickly. Global dust storm events are also known to significantly impact these density, temperature and wind fields in the Mars thermosphere. For the current project, the derived temperatures and O plus CO2 densities are used to characterize the upper atmosphere dayside thermal and density structure. Presently, more than 6 years of Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer (NGIMS) measurements of neutral densities have been obtained by the MAVEN team (e.g. Mahaffy et al. 2015; Bougher et al 2015; Elrod et al., 2017; 2021; Stone et al. 2018; Gupta et al., 2021). Measured neutral density distributions are compared to simulations from a computer model of the Mars atmosphere called M-GITM (Mars Global Ionosphere-Thermosphere Model), developed at U. of Michigan. Since the global circulation plays a role in the structure, variability, and evolution of the atmosphere, understanding the processes that drive the winds in the upper atmosphere of Mars also provides the needed context for understanding density and temperature distributions and how the atmosphere behaves as a whole system. Three dimensional M-GITM simulations for extreme Mars seasonal and solar cycle conditions were conducted for detailed comparisons with NGIMS derived temperatures and O/CO2 ratio distributions (Bougher et al. 2022). Extracted model densities and temperatures along the MAVEN inbound trajectory of each orbit path (between ~300 km and periapsis) are provided in this Deep Blue Data archive. Corresponding M-GITM heat balance terms are also provided in vertical 1-D tabulated formats. README files are included for each suite of 1-D "flythru" tables, detailing the contents of each file. In addition, a general README file is provided that summarizes the inputs and outputs of the M-GITM code simulations for this study. Finally, a basic version of the M-GITM code can be found on Github at https:/github.com/dpawlows/MGITM.

- This database contains six datasets intended to aid in the conception, training, demonstration, evaluation, and comparison of reduced-complexity models for fluid mechanics. The six datasets are: large-eddy-simulation data for a turbulent jet, direct-numerical-simulation data for a zero-pressure-gradient turbulent boundary layer, particle-image-velocimetry data for the same boundary layer, direct-numerical-simulation data for laminar stationary and pitching flat-plate airfoils, particle-image-velocimetry and force data for an airfoil encountering a gust, and large-eddy-simulation data for the separated, turbulent flow over an airfoil. All data are stored within hdf5 files, and each dataset additionally contains a README file and a Matlab script showing how the data can be read and manipulated. Since all datafiles use the hdf5 format, they can alternatively be read within virtually any other programing environment. An example.zip file included for each dataset provides an entry point for users. The database is an initiative of the AIAA Discussion Group on Reduced-Complexity Modeling and is detailed in the paper listed below. - Description:
- Magnetospheric sawtooth oscillations are observed during strong and steady solar wind driving conditions. The simulation results of our global MHD model with embedded kinetic physics show that when the total magnetic flux carried by constant solar wind exceeds a threshold, sawtooth-like magnetospheric oscillations are generated. Different from previous works, this result is obtained without involving time-varying ionospheric outflow in the model. The oscillation period and amplitude agree well with observations. The simulated oscillations cover a wide range of local times, although the distribution of magnitude as a function of longitude is different from observations. Our comparative simulations using ideal or Hall MHD models do not produce global time-varying features, which suggests that kinetic reconnection physics in the magnetotail is a major contributing factor to sawtooth oscillations.

- Description:
- Many statistical tools have been developed to aid in the assessment of a numerical model’s quality at reproducing observations. Some of these techniques focus on the identification of events within the data set, times when the observed value is beyond some threshold value that defines it as a value of keen interest. An example of this is whether it will rain, in which events are defined as any precipitation above some defined amount. A method called the sliding threshold of observation for numeric evaluation (STONE) curve sweeps the event definition threshold of both the model output and the observations, resulting in the identification of threshold intervals for which the model does well at sorting the observations into events and nonevents. An excellent data-model comparison will have a smooth STONE curve, but the STONE curve can have wiggles and ripples in it. These features reveal clusters when the model systematically overestimates or underestimates the observations. This study establishes the connection between features in the STONE curve and attributes of the data-model relationship. The method is applied to a space weather example.

- We created various files, including GIS files and data files for both the UM Hydrologic Modeling Team and for our own Escherichia coli sampling project. The UM Hydrologic Team used the files we created to make their models more accurate. For example, we edited Clinton River subwatershed files to better reflect below and above-ground infrastructure, and provided them to the modeling team. For our own E. coli subproject we created time series, GIS files, and R code to better understand the influence of precipitation and streamflow on E. coli dynamics. Our time-series data is based on baseline and storm sampling we conducted in the summer of 2021. We used GIS files to explore the subwatersheds of our E. coli sampling locations. Finally, we created R code to help us visualize and analyze the data.

A knowledge assessment score was calculated by adding the total number of points accumulated by the student, dividing it by the total number of points possible, and summarizing the score as a percentage. Pre- and post-talk knowledge assessment scores were compared for each chalk talk and for the entire curriculum using 2-tailed paired sample t-tests with statistical significance if p<0.05., Before and after each talk, students were asked how confident they felt differentiating conditions within each disease group. For the erythroderma and immunobullous talks, students were also asked how confident they felt working up the conditions. Answer choices were on a Likert scale ranging from 1 (not at all confident) to 5 (extremely confident). Pre- and post-chalk talk scores were summarized as means with standard deviations and compared using 2-tailed paired sample t-tests with statistical significance if p<0.05. , After each talk, students were asked about its efficacy in terms of enhancing their understanding of the diseases, providing a framework or approach to work-up, and facilitating interaction between student and teacher. Answer choices were on a Likert scale ranging from 1 (not at all effective) to 5 (extremely effective), and summarized as means with standard deviations. Students were asked for written feedback regarding what they liked about the talk and suggestions for improvement. Qualitative data were sorted into categories and scored by two independent raters (cohen's kappa =0.8)., and In the response Likert scale, "Not at all"=1, "Not so (much)"=2, "Somewhat"=3, "Very"=4, and "Extremely"=5.

- Description:
- These data were produced in the scope of research into understanding the application of zircon (U-Th)/He thermochronometric data derived from rocks with complex radiation damage distributions to the extraction of long-term (>1 Gyr) thermal histories of the Earth's upper crust. The samples used in this study were collected from the Front Range in Colorado, USA. The low-temperature (apatite and zircon (U-Th)/He) thermochronometric ages presented in this data set are sensitive to near-surface temperatures (~80C and 180C, respectively) and record the progressive exhumation of the rock mass from which the samples were collected towards the Earth's surface. These thermochronometric ages, and the differences between them, provide insight into the deep-time (~1000 Ma - 100 Ma) thermal history of the Colorado Front Range.

- Description:
- This dataset consists of 11 linear external morphological measurements from 1,614 adult frog individuals from 434 species that all naturally occur in the Western Hemisphere. We used these data to investigate patterns of multidimensional morphospace structure in frog assemblages along the latitudinal diversity gradient in the Americas. The measured traits are predictive of adult microhabitat use, diel activity patterns, locomotion, mating habitat, and diet.

- The Lannang Corpus (LanCorp) is a sociolinguistic POS-tagged 375,000-word speech-and-text corpus of Lannang languages based on audio recordings collected in metropolitan Manila between 2016 and 2020. It hopes to furnish scholars interested in Sino-Philippine (socio)linguistics with a contemporary, multilingual corpus (i.e., Hokkien, Tagalog, English, Lánnang-uè, Mandarin) compiled using recorded oral data primarily collected from a Sino-Philippine community in metropolitan Manila by the community: the Manila Lannangs. The publicly available corpus contains manual transcriptions (time-aligned to the audio), source language and part-of-speech tags derived using a mix of manual and computational methods, and a wide range of social metadata; it is also organized and stored systematically for easy data retrieval and (socio)linguistic analysis. Although there are existing sociolinguistic corpora, they are small in scale and were not released publicly due to lack of informant consent – LanCorp readily fills the gap.
