- Manganese in the sedimentary record has been interpreted by many as a powerful redox proxy for paleoenvironments, and yet very little work has been done to ensure that the manganese-rich minerals in the rock record are actually recording primary signals. In the accompanying manuscript, we present an in-depth characterization of the manganese mineralogy from two correlated regions recording the Transvaal Supergroup in South Africa with markedly different alteration histories to investigate if there can be post-depositional emplacement of manganese-rich minerals. The data uploaded here are X-ray absorption spectra of (1) manganese standard minerals that were useful in our analyses and (2) minerals from an important well-characterized sample that may be useful as comparative standards in future studies.

Defect patterns on the curved surface of fish retinae suggest a mechanism of cone mosaic formation

- The outer epithelial layer of zebrafish retinae contains a crystalline array of cone photoreceptors, called the cone mosaic. As this mosaic grows by mitotic addition of new photoreceptors at the rim of the hemispheric retina, topological defects, called “Y-Junctions”, form to maintain approximately constant cell spacing. The generation of topological defects due to growth on a curved surface is a distinct feature of the cone mosaic not seen in other well-studied biological patterns like the R8 photoreceptor array in the _ Drosophila compound eye. Since defects can provide insight into cell-cell interactions responsible for pattern formation, here we characterize the arrangement of cones in individual Y-Junction cores (see Set of images for Figures 1 and 2 and 6 and Supplementary Figure 7) as well as the spatial distribution of Y-junctions across entire retinae (see Dataset for analyzing spatial distribution of Y-junctions in flat-mounted retinae). We find that for individual Y-junctions, the distribution of cones near the core corresponds closely to structures observed in physical crystals (see Set of images for Figures 1 and 2 and 6 and Supplementary Figure 7). In addition, Y-Junctions are organized into lines, called grain boundaries, from the retinal center to the periphery (see Dataset for analyzing spatial distribution of Y-junctions in flat-mounted retinae and Dataset for measuring tendency of Y-junctions to line up into grain boundaries during incorporation into retinae). In physical crystals, regardless of the initial distribution of defects, defects can coalesce into grain boundaries via the mobility of individual particles. By imaging in live fish, we demonstrate that grain boundaries in the cone mosaic instead appear during initial mosaic formation, without requiring defect motion (see Dataset for measuring tendency of Y-junctions to line up into grain boundaries during incorporation into retinae and Dataset for analyzing Y-junction motion in live fish retinae). Motivated by this observation, we show that a computational model of repulsive cell-cell interactions generates a mosaic with grain boundaries (see Code and example simulations of phase-field crystal model (for cone mosaic formation)). In contrast to paradigmatic models of fate specification in mostly motionless cell packings (see Code and accompanying input data for simulating lateral inhibition on motionless cell packing), this finding emphasizes the role of cell motion, guided by cell-cell interactions during differentiation, in forming biological crystals. Such a route to the formation of regular patterns may be especially valuable in situations, like growth on a curved surface, where the resulting long-ranged, elastic, effective interactions between defects can help to group them into grain boundaries.

- These studies assess the effect of social identity on judgement and are described in "Demographically diverse crowds are typically not much wiser than homogeneous crowds" (de Oliveira, S., & Nisbett, R. E. Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 2018) and the article’s Supporting Information appendix. Some studies use a variety of questions to assess multiple social identity factors; the other studies are narrowed to particular social identity variables. Each study includes some type of estimation or prediction task, collects social identity variables, and asks participants to indicate their answer strategies. Study 1 is a trivia and prediction task based on football team fan identity. Study 2 reports on demographics plus political and religious identity and asks participants to predict vote percentages in presidential primaries. Study 3 participants estimate the percentage of Americans that support statements on various polarizing political views and give likelihood ratings for presidential candidates to win the Iowa caucus; a variety of identity questions are asked including political and religious identity. Study 4 includes demographics plus political and religious identity questions and asks participants to predict how the candidates would perform in the 2016 United States presidential election. Study 5 asks participants to guess the popularity rating of books that had either gender-specific or gender-neutral appeal, and also to rate their own interest in the books. Demographic-based social identity variables such as sex are included. Study 6 includes a wide variety of social identity variables and asks participants to estimate the likelihood of events occurring in the near future. Study 7 participants are from diverse national backgrounds and completed judgement tasks that predicted stock prices, Olympic performance, and news events outcomes. The data are generally interpretable when examined in conjunction with the target article. - The data set includes one file: Dermatology Clerkship Chalk Talks Raw Dataset which is the raw data collected from the surveys. This raw data was then coded and scored with the following analysis. Objective knowledge questions were asked for each chalk talk which was scored by authors. A knowledge assessment score was calculated by adding the total number of points accumulated by the student, dividing it by the total number of points possible, and summarizing the score as a percentage. Pre- and post-talk knowledge assessment scores were compared for each chalk talk and for the entire curriculum using 2-tailed paired sample t-tests with statistical significance if p<0.05., Before and after each talk, students were asked how confident they felt differentiating conditions within each disease group. For the erythroderma and immunobullous talks, students were also asked how confident they felt working up the conditions. Answer choices were on a Likert scale ranging from 1 (not at all confident) to 5 (extremely confident). Pre- and post-chalk talk scores were summarized as means with standard deviations and compared using 2-tailed paired sample t-tests with statistical significance if p<0.05. , After each talk, students were asked about its efficacy in terms of enhancing their understanding of the diseases, providing a framework or approach to work-up, and facilitating interaction between student and teacher. - Today’s Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) support job searches, resume creation and the ability to highlight employment skills on social media. However, these technological tools are often tailored to high-income, highly educated users, and white-collar professionals. It is unclear what interventions address the needs of job seekers who have limited resources, education, or who may be underserved in other ways. We gathered insights from past literature and generated ten tangible design concepts to address the needs of underserved job seekers. We then conducted a needs validation and speed dating study to understand which concepts were most viable among our population. We found that the three most preferred concepts immediately addressed job seekers’ most practical needs. and Per reviewer feedback, we aim to improve the utility of this publication to other scholars by including our research materials here. This dataset includes the interview script, storyboards that were used in the needs validation study, the demographics survey/questionnaire, and the consent form.

- This data set is comprised of multiple folders. The corpus folder contains raw text used for training and testing in two splits, "document" and "paragraph". The Spun documents and paragraphs are generated using the SpinBot tool ( https://spinbot.com/API). The paragraph split is generated by only selecting paragraphs with 3 or more sentences in the document split. Each folder is divided in mg (i.e., machine generated through SpinBot) and og (i.e., original generated file), The human judgement folder contains the human evaluation between original and spun documents (sample). It also contains the answers (keys) and survey results. , The models folder contains the machine learning classifier models for each word embedding technique used (only for document split training). The models were exported using pickle (Python 3.6). The grid search for hyperparameter adjustments is described in the paper. , and The vector folders (train and test) contains the average of all word vectors for each document and paragraph. Each line has the number of dimensions of the word embeddings technique used (see paper for more details) followed by its respective class (i.e, label mg or og). Each file belong to one class, either "mg" or "og". The values are comma-separated (.csv). The extension is .arff can be read as a normal .txt file.

Beginning with the premise that place-based storymaking is vital to sustaining democratic values and community capacity for self-determination, the Lab partners on projects designed to support the narrative capacities of local urban communities through the story-telling channels of community journalism, place-based education, and public history., The Story Lab co-designs scalable interventions to strengthen community-based forms of narrative infrastructure. - The modern settlement of Dikhashkho is located southeast of Vani, approximately 4 km up the Sulori River. The village is located in the Vani administrative district. We investigated a hill topped by a Mediaeval fortress knows as the Isriti Tsikhe (A044) about 2 km northeast of the village center and just south of the main east-west road running south of the Phasis River. In a ploughed field at the base of the hill, extending to the northeast toward the main road, we recorded a scatter of sherds and fragments of burnt mud plaster (A045). A second Mediaeval tower is located north of the main east-west road running south of the Phasis River (B005).

- The Mediaeval fortress or watchtower known as Isriti Tsikhe is located 2 km northeast of the village of Dikhashkho, just south of the main east-west road running south of the Phasis River. The fortress crowns the top of the first foothill south of the flat river plain, which rises 90 m above the plain. The tower is oblong in plan, oriented northeast by southwest. Its exterior dimensions are 9.1 m (on the northeast side) by 7.5 m (on the northwest side). Its interior length (from the southwest side to the northeast side) is 4.6 m. The walls of the tower are built of limestone slabs set in hard white mortar, facing a core of mortared rubble, including large numbers of cobblestones. Two cylindrical holes left by wooden tie beams are visible in the opposing northeast and southwest interior walls. The limestone facing is approximately 0.30 m deep; the total thickness of the walls of the tower is 1.4 m, but somewhat wider at the corners, which are square on the exterior but rounded on the interior. The southeast side appears to be pierced by a damaged gateway. One window, preserved approximately 2 m above ground level on the southeast side (east of the damaged gateway), is 0.50 m high by 0.30 m wide, and 1.7 m deep.

- The remains of a masonry tower are located 3.5 km northeast of the modern village of Dikhashkho at 50 masl, just north of the main east-west road running south of the Phasis River. The standing remains of a small rectangular or possibly hexagonal tower are situated on a small mound just east of a dirt road running north-south, and surrounded by the level river plain, which is planted with corn. Only the eastern wall of the structure is well preserved. The overall exterior dimensions of the structure are 4.7 m (on the east side) by 6.8 m (on the south side). The maximum preserved height of the structure at the southeast corner is 1.55 m. The walls of the tower are built of limestone blocks set in hard white mortar, facing a core of mortared rubble. The facing blocks are preserved on the interior side of the east wall, but not on the exterior. The facing is approximately 0.2 m deep, making the total original thickness of the walls 1.6 m. The facing blocks are approximately 0.3 m in height, 0.5 m in length, and 0.2 m in depth; the stones of the rubble fill vary from 0.2-0.4 m in length. This structure has a sightline to nearby Isriti Tsikhe on top of the hill to the southwest (A044).

- This dataset accompanies a study that seeks to contribute to a clearer understanding of the discovery ecosystem in academic research libraries. Using historical literature as a case study, extensive citation analysis is employed to both reveal characteristics of secondary historical literature as well as to test a broad disciplinary discovery environment that includes six specific search platforms. By enhancing our understanding of where and how specific types of resources are –or are not—discoverable, as the case may be, this study can provide evidence to better inform the appropriate role and placement of various search platforms in a user’s process. This citation analysis drew upon all secondary literature that was cited in the American Historical Review (AHR) during a six-year period, from 2010 through 2015. The AHR is the official publication of the American Historical Association (AHA) and, as stated on its website, has served as “the journal of record for the historical profession in the United States since 1895.” Additionally, the AHR represents all subfields of history in its research articles and reviews of new scholarship. For this study, the author gathered citations from research articles only, excluding reviews. For the purposes of testing the library discovery environment, the author aimed to include citations that a researcher would be likely to identify by using library research tools, as opposed to archival finding aids. Recognizing that some tools included in this study, such as JSTOR and Historical Abstracts, do not index archival sources, the author decided to focus on published and secondary materials. All citations to archival sources, government information, and other unpublished manuscript materials were excluded. Additionally, citations to newspaper and general or popular press articles published prior to 1900 were excluded. Citations to entire periodicals, as opposed to articles, were also excluded. Books from all date ranges were included. Citations to non-scholarly newspaper and magazine articles published after 1900 were included. Citations to published primary sources were also included in the population of citations, as one may reasonably expect to locate them in a research library setting. The resulting population comprised 22,572 citations. After separating out duplicate citations, the total number was 19,937. Using a random number generator, the de-duplicated list of citations was re-ordered in order to select a random sample of 400, which affords a confidence level of 95% and a confidence interval of 5. The first step in analysis was to characterize each citation according to format, publication date, and language. Secondly, the author searched for all citations in the sample in the 6 different search platforms listed above. The primary question for each database included in the study was how comprehensively it represented the population of AHR citations, as represented by the random sample selected for this study. In order for a given citation to count as present in a particular database, it had to be represented in the format in which it was cited. For example, if a search for a cited book turned up only a dissertation, with the same author and very similar title, the analysis found that the citation was not present. For book chapters cited with authors and titles, it was not necessary for chapters to have their own records in order to be counted as present but it was necessary for them to be discernible among search results as chapters, such as in a table of contents listing. In order to expedite the search process, the author searched Historical Abstracts and America: History and Life simultaneously on the EBSCO platform. For all of the platforms except Google Scholar, the author performed advanced searches, entering both title and author information for each citation. All searching took place between February and May of 2017. The results presented here reflect the content available to search in each platform at the time of investigation.

- Program Description DoT was founded in 2012 with a mission to increase diversity amongst medical professionals by preparing students from underrepresented communities in Detroit to successfully pursue careers in healthcare. Our program builds on a partnership between Cass Technical High School (CTHS) and the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS). The CTHS student body is reflective of the Detroit population with more than 80% of students identifying with racial and ethnic minority backgrounds. Students with an interest in healthcare apply for the program as ninth graders. In recent years, the program has received over 60 applications for approximately 30 positions in each grade. DoT’s unique strength lies in its longitudinal structure. There are three branches of the program – Foundations (ninth and tenth grade), Rising (eleventh and twelfth grade) and Succeed (undergraduate). Ninth graders start out in DoT Foundations. Each student is paired with a first-year medical student mentor at UMMS for the entire academic year. DoT students travel to UMMS every month for a visit day, with activities designed to give students hands-on experiences in healthcare, such as suturing and ultrasound skills in the simulation center, and clinical shadowing. Students then meet with their medical student mentor over lunch. The latter part of the day is dedicated to working on their capstone projects. For the capstone projects, students work in small teams led by medical student leaders to identify a community health issue, partner with a local organization, and present their proposed solutions at a formal symposium at the end of the year. , Transition to Virtual Programming In light of the recent COVID-19 pandemic, a growing number of universities cancelled all campus events including those of pipeline programs. We felt that our programming offered an important service to our students that would be greatly missed, so our team worked to quickly create and implement a virtual program. We ensured that each of our students had access to technology at home and those who did not were offered scholarships. During our introductory student session and new parent meeting, our leadership team discussed how to set up a Gmail email address for weekly communications and taught the students how to use Zoom, Google Drive, Google Docs and Google Sheets for online learning collaboration. For the virtual Foundations program, we offered 1-hour seminars each month, where a physician was invited to give a 30-minute presentation about different organ systems, followed by a 30-minute case-based session where students worked with medical student mentors to apply their new knowledge. We also created novel sessions such as “The Path to College and Medical School” and collaborated with members of the Black Medical Association (BMA) and Latin American and Native American Medical Association (LANAMA) to host a panel session where students could learn from medical students who identified as URiM. For the mentorship aspect, we created “pods” of Foundations, Rising, and Succeed students along with medical student and physician mentors. The Foundations students and mentors met every month for an hour on Zoom, a virtual communication platform, to work on their Capstone project. Rising and Succeed students joined the group for three full-pod meetings. The goal was to increase near-peer mentorship and connections between DoT students at all levels. , and Study Population Due to the virtual nature of the 2020-2021 program, we accepted 100% of 9th grade applicants from CTHS. We also expanded our reach to a new school, The School at Marygrove (TSM), which is also located in Detroit, Michigan. TSM is involved in the Detroit-20 Partnership with the University of Michigan College of Education and includes a novel three-year residency program for novice teachers. During the 2020-2021 school year, 108 students participated in the Foundations programming with 72 of them being 9th graders and 36 being 10th graders. The students were mostly from CTHS with 12 students out of the 108 total being from TSM. Students were predominantly from an African American/Black racial background (68.4% from N=98 respondents). The students were representative of their respective schools. The majority of students at CTHS identify as black, come from low-income homes, and have variable levels of parental education.

- Najamba is spoken chiefly in villages on the edges of low cliffs flanking a long valley near Douentza in central Mali. It belongs to a cluster of languages/dialects including Kindige, spoken mostly along the main Douentza-Sevare highway, and the varieties around Borko on the (very) high plateau on the northwestern edge of the Dogon (Bandiagara) plateau. These varieties are often collectively called Bondu So, but this is an exonym. A grammar of Najamba was published electronically by Language Description Heritage Library in 2017 http://ldh.clld.org/2017/02/01/escidoc2397771/ It is backed up at Deep Blue documents. http://hdl.handle.net/2027.42/139022 One cassette was recorded (on one side only) in Kubewel village in 2004. Two cassettes were recorded in Adia village in 2005 in a single long session. These have been digitized. The inventory is: Kubewel: 2004-01 side A; Adia 2005-01 side A; 2005-01 side B; 2005-02 side A; 2005-02 side B. The 2004 tape had poor sound quality and was not transcribed. A substantial part of 2005-01 side A and 2005-02 side A was transcribed and translated in unpublished keyboarded documents in 2009 (see below). The material from 2005-01 side A was further edited and appeared as a single long text at the end of the published grammar. - Tebul Ure is a Dogon language spoken on the heights in a horseshoe valley between Bamba and Yanda on the eastern edge of the Dogon (Bandiagara) plateau in central Mali. A grammar is drafted but incomplete as of May 2018. Texts were transcribed from dictation in 2012 in the Tebul area, and others were recorded digitally in 2015 at a nearby town on the plateau. Six of the 2015 texts have been transcribed. The texts are included at the end of the grammar. - Tiranige is a Dogon language spoken in villages on the high plateau near the western edge of the Dogon (Bandiagara) plateau, and in villages at the base of the cliffs and slopes leading down from the plateau to the sandy plains. As of May 2018 I am still working on a drafted Tiranige grammar which I hope to complete in 2019. The grammar draft currently ends with six short texts transcribed from dictation. The only audio recording is therefore labeled Text 07. The speakers are Amadou Toloba and Boubacar Toloba. Most but not all of it (17.5 minutes out of about 22) has been partially transcribed. The plan is to complete the grammar and to transcribe and translate at least Text 07.

- Yorno So is the variety of the Toro So subgroup of the Dogon language family. It is spoken in the Yendouma village cluster along the base of cliffs on the eastern side of the Dogon (Bandiagara) plateau in east-central Mali. It is not yet completely clear whether it is best described as a dialect of Toro So (which also includes Sangha So, Ibi So, and other varieties), or as a separate language. As of May 2018 my opinion is that it is a dialect. - Investigating minimum human reaction times is often confounded by the motivation, training, and state of arousal of the subjects. We used the reaction times of athletes competing in the shorter sprint events in the Athletics competitions in recent Olympics (2004-2016) to determine minimum human reaction times because there's little question as to their motivation, training, or state of arousal. The reaction times of sprinters however are only available on the IAAF web page for each individual heat, in each event, at each Olympic. Therefore we compiled all these data into two separate excel sheets which can be used for further analyses.

- The 2023 DREAM Street Fair was a free, family-friendly festival celebrating our neighborhood’s spirit of community, entrepreneurship, arts and culture, and healthy living. Hosted by Jermaine “Big Fresh” Carey and rising comedian Nadirah Pierre, and headlined by multi-platinum recording artist Freeway, the event featured performances by Khalil Ismail, Ain’t Afraid, Journalist 103, Tariq Toure, and Hardcore Detroit. It was an afternoon of empowering poetry, soulful vocals, classic hip-hop, world-class break dancing, and fun interactions with the crowd. Nearly 40 vendors, including some of the area’s best food trucks, set up shop to interact with 3,000 attendees over the course of the day. And children were treated to bounce houses, button-making, book readings, and outdoor video gaming., Primarily hosted by Dream of Detroit, a local organization combining community organizing and development to revitalize a Westside neighborhood, the Street Fair was a true community partnership. The Detroit Repertory Theatre, the city’s longest-running neighborhood theatre, opened up their lot to sell treasured props from 60 years worth of performances. The HUDA Clinic, our local free health care center, offered dental screenings, health assessments and referral services. And, at the HUDA Urban Garden, attendees picked fruits and vegetables, and learned creative ways to make tasty and healthy meals and snacks. Putting on a free neighborhood festival of this scale would have been impossible without the support of Egalitarian Metropolis and sponsors like Mercy-USA. Plainly put: these types of events don’t usually happen in neighborhoods like ours. That’s why, for nearly a decade, Dream of Detroit has been working toward a truly inclusive Detroit recovery where the idea that “every neighborhood has a future” is more than just a political slogan., and Our goal with this event was to host an excellent celebration for our community members, and to shine a spotlight on the community-led placemaking and development happening in our neighborhood. The DREAM Street Fair stands alongside other initiatives like the DREAM Community Land Trust, our partnership with ProsperUs Detroit Entrepreneurship Workshop, and our membership in the Coalition for Property Tax Justice, as just some of the programs we are involved in to do our small part in creating an Egalitarian Metropolis. Dynamical Heating in the Martian Thermosphere: Temperatures, Winds and Thermal Balances using M-GITM

- The NASA MAVEN (Mars Atmosphere and Volatile Evolution) spacecraft, which is currently in orbit around Mars, has been taking systematic measurements of the densities and deriving temperatures in the upper atmosphere of Mars (between about 140 to 240 km above the surface) since late 2014. Wind measurement campaigns have also been conducted once per month for 5-10 orbits since 2016. These densities, temperatures and winds change with time (e.g. solar cycle, season, local time) and location, and sometimes fluctuate quickly. Global dust storm events are also known to significantly impact these density, temperature and wind fields in the Mars thermosphere. For the current project, in-situ measured winds and corresponding argon density derived temperatures are combined to trace the circulation patterns and investigate their convergence and divergence locations and impacts throughout the Mars thermosphere. M-GITM computed thermal balance terms are subsequently extracted to investigate the processes required to maintain the temperature distribution around the planet. For this work, Mars Year #33 (MY33) Neutral Gas and Ion Mass Spectrometer (NGIMS) measurements have been obtained by the MAVEN team for this purpose (see these representative works: (Bougher et al., 2017; Stone et al., 2018; Benna et al., 2019). These temperature and wind fields are compared to simulations from a computer model of the Mars atmosphere called M-GITM (Mars Global Ionosphere-Thermosphere Model), developed at U. of Michigan. Since the global circulation plays a role in the structure, variability, and evolution of the atmosphere, understanding the processes that drive the winds in the upper atmosphere of Mars also provides the needed context for understanding temperature distributions and underlying thermal balances throughout the atmosphere. Three dimensional M-GITM simulations for three of the four Mars cardinal seasons (Ls = 0, 90, 270) for MY33 were conducted for detailed comparisons with NGIMS temperature and wind distributions (Pilinski et al. 2022). Corresponding M-GITM datacubes used to extract these temperatures (plus winds) along the trajectory of each orbit path between 140 and 240 km, are provided in this Deep Blue Data archive. A single README file is included that details the contents of each datacube file. In addition, this general README file summarizes the inputs and outputs of each M-GITM simulation interval used for this study. Finally, a basic version of the M-GITM code can be found on Github at https:/github.com/dpawlows/MGITM.

- Part of the regulation of telomerase activity includes the alternative splicing (AS) of the catalytic subunit telomerase reverse transcriptase (TERT). Although a therapeutic window for telomerase/TERT inhibition exists between cancer cells and somatic cells, stem cells express TERT and rely on telomerase activity for physiological replacement of cells. Therefore, identifying differences in TERT regulation between stem cells and cancer cells is essential for developing telomerase inhibition-based cancer therapies that reduce damage to stem cells. In this study, we measured TERT splice variant expression and telomerase activity in induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), neural progenitor cells (NPCs), and non-small cell lung cancer cells (NSCLC, Calu-6 cells). We observed that a NOVA1-PTBP1-PTBP2 axis regulates TERT alternative splicing (AS) in iPSCs and their differentiation into NPCs. We also found that splice-switching of TERT, which regulates telomerase activity, is induced by different cell densities in stem cells but not cancer cells. Lastly, we identified cell type-specific splicing factors that regulate TERT AS. Overall, our findings represent an important step forward in understanding the regulation of TERT AS in stem cells and cancer cells. These data and subsequent studies may reveal a splicing factor(s) or their binding site(s) that could be targeted with small molecule drugs or antisense oligonucleotides, respectively, to reduce telomerase activity in cancer cells and promote durable cancer remissions.

- The modern settlement Dzulukhi lies approximately 11 km southeast of Vani, on the banks of a tributary of the Sulori River, called the Dzulukhura (or, locally, the Dzlukhura). This stream flows through a valley in between the zone of low hillocks overlooking the Phasis River plain, and the beginning of the higher foothills of the Lesser Caucasus. The village is located in the Vani administrative district. Southeast and upstream of the modern village is a hill called Melaurisgora. The hill is oriented north-south and rises to an elevation of about 450 m, 150 meters above the settlement and stream below. A Mediaeval fortress known as Melauritsike crowns the top of this hill (A042), and sherd scatters on both the east and west sides of the hill attest occupation in the Classical period as well (A041). In 2009 a young man named Merab Kheladze from Dzulukhi showed us the road to the fortress on top of the hill and stayed with us for the entire trip, joining us even for a dip in the Dzulukhura. In 2010 we returned to Dzulukhi to conduct geophysical survey on Melaurisgora. At this time we documented pottery scattered across the southeast slope of Aptarauli hill (B002). Identifiable pottery included Classical pithos fragments, as well as burnt mud plasters, extending the area of known occupation from Melaurisgora down to the banks of the Dzulukhura.

The hill rises to an elevation of about 450 m, 150 meters above the settlement and stream below. We recorded and collected pottery and burnt mud plaster fragments from a cornfield and from the eroded scarps of the west slope of the hill, which we approached first, as well as from the terraces on the east slope, just below the summit. Identifiable pottery from the west slope included one possible body fragment of a Sinopian amphora, as well as Classical and early-late Mediaeval material. The pottery collected from the east slope of the hill (directly below the mediaeval fortress, A042) was all Classical. It is unclear from the surface materials whether occupation extended down the slopes of the hill, or whether these materials have washed down from a small settlement on top.

- Southeast of the modern settlement of Dzulukhi lies a hill called Melaurisgora, oriented north-south and bounded to the west by a narrow stream called the Dzulukhura (or Dzlukhura). The hill rises to an elevation of about 450 m, 150 meters above the settlement and stream below. The top of Melaurisgora hill is crowned by the remains of a fortress called Melauritsike. We approached the hill from the northwest, walked south along the western slope, and turned back to the north to climb a series of three terraces to the top. We recorded the mortared rubble masonry remains of the fortress on each of these sequential terraces, rising from south to north. On the southwest corner of lowest terrace, we noted a heap of stones, some squared, presumably the remains of a small tower or bastion. On the western edge of the middle terrace, we recorded the roughly square foundations of another small tower, built of squared blocks set in white mortar. The tower appears to be 4.5 m across, measuring from its straight eastern wall to its apparently curving western wall. The highest and northernmost terrace occupies the top of the hill, and here we recorded the remains of a much larger round enclosure or keep with a circular turret to the east. This structure is built of mortared rubble masonry and has an interior diameter of 18-20 m (not including the attached turret). The walls of the keep are roughly 1.6 m thick, the walls of the turret somewhat narrower. and irregular in width. Three visible windows along the west side of the keep are spaced 3-4 m apart. They are 1.80 m deep, and they measure 0.50 m wide by 0.60 high, 0.40 m by 0.85 m, and 0.35 m by 0.70 m, respectively. On the west side of the keep, near the windows, a broken pithos is embedded in the ground. On the northeast side of the keep is a small vaulted chapel, still in use (the fortress itself is equipped with a wooden cross illuminated by a string of lights). From the top of the hill there is only one narrow sightline north northeast into the Phasis River valley; in all other directions only the surrounding hills are visible.

- The Eastern Greater Caucasus is a mountain belt in western Asia that formed as an accretionary prism above an active subduction zone. Because of the bedrock exposure in the range, it offers a unique opportunity to research deformation processes in accretionary prisms, which are ubiquitous above the Earth's many subduction zones but are typically submarine and difficult to investigate. The data presented here result from field geologic mapping in several swaths roughly perpendicular to the mountain range that together span the entire range across strike. The data serve will serve as the basis for inference of the deep structural architecture of the range and characterization of the styles of deformation present in the range.

- Wind exposure is a key physical driver of coastal systems in aquatic environments influencing circulation and wave dynamics. A measure of wind exposure is fetch, the distance over which wind can travel across open water. In large lake systems, such as the Laurentian Great Lakes, estimating fetch has proved to be difficult due to their vast size and complex topobathymetry. Here we describe the development of two spatially discrete indicators of exposure to provide a more accurate indicator of influence of wind exposure in the nearshore of the Laurentian Great Lakes. We summarized wind data from offshore buoys and leveraged existing tools to calculate effective fetch and relative exposure index (effective fetch scaled by mean wind speed) at a 30 m grid cell resolution. We validated these models by comparing our exposure maps to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Wave Information Studies models and found general agreement. These exposure maps are available for public download for the years 2004-2014.

By “Detroit-like cities” we mean urban areas that have experienced negative population growth, deindustrialization, economic disinvestment, racial stratification, environmental injustices, and concomitant crises in housing, health care, policing, criminalization, and education. At the same time, Detroit and Detroit-like cities offer opportunities to conjoin critical humanistic inquiry, urban design, and policy solutions for building more equitable and sustainable cities., and This course is co-designed and co-taught as part of the Egalitarian Metropolis Project, which is a partnership between the Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning and the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. - Data were acquired from 21 patients with intractable epilepsy undergoing clinical evaluation using iEEG. Patients ranged in age from 15-58 years (mean = 37.1, SD = 12.8) and included 10 females. Across all patients, data was recorded from a total of 1367 electrodes. Each participant were presented with multiple trials of auditory only and congruent audio-visual stimuli. On each trial a single phoneme was presented to the participant. Three variants of the tasks were used with each variant consisting of a different set of phonemes (variant A: /ba/ /da/ /ta/ /tha/, variant B: /ba/ /da/ /ga/, variant C: /ba/ /ga/ /ka/ /pa/). Trials were presented in a random order and phonemes were distributed uniformly across conditions. While conditions were matched in terms of trial numbers, participants completed a variable number of trials (based on task variant and the number of blocks completed). All provided data has been resampled to 1024 Hz during initial stages of processing for all participants. Data has been referenced in a bipolar fashion (signals subtracted from each immediately adjacent electrode in a pairwise manner) to ensure that the observed signals were derived from maximally local neuronal populations. The preprocessing steps followed have been described in the detailed description document in the attached materials. and The dataset zip folder consists of three main sub-folders: 1) Electrodes: This folder provides details regarding the individual electrodes for each subject, their MNI coordinates as well as their MNI vertices information according to freesurfer parcellations. This folder also consists of images of the physical location of each of the electrode sets. 2) Processed: This folder contains preprocessed data in all three frequencies (theta, beta and high gamma power) for individual subjects and the corresponding vertex locations for each of the electrodes from which their data was recorded. The images subfolder also contains figures provided in the main manuscript. 3) MatlabCodes: This folder contains all the matlab scripts required to reproduce the results provided in the main manuscript. The first column of each .csv file is the experiment time in seconds. The second column is the posture of the cue hand at that timestamp. The rest of the columns are the raw EMG data in microvolts sampled at 30KSps. - The relationship between words in a sentence often tell us more about the underlying semantic content of a document than its actual words, individually. Recent publications in the natural language processing arena, more specifically using word embeddings, try to incorporate semantic aspects into their word vector representation by considering the context of words and how they are distributed in a document collection. In this work, we propose two novel algorithms, called Flexible Lexical Chain II and Fixed Lexical Chain II that combine the semantic relations derived from lexical chains, prior knowledge from lexical databases, and the robustness of the distributional hypothesis in word embeddings into a single decoupled system. In short, our approach has three main contributions: (i) unsupervised techniques that fully integrate word embeddings and lexical chains; (ii) a more solid semantic representation that considers the latent relation between words in a document; and (iii) lightweight word embeddings models that can be extended to any natural language task. Knowledge-based systems that use natural language text can benefit from our approach to mitigate ambiguous semantic representations provided by traditional statistical approaches. The proposed techniques are tested against seven word embeddings algorithms using five different machine learning classifiers over six scenarios in the document classification task. Our results show that the integration between lexical chains and word embeddings representations sustain state-of-the-art results, even against more complex systems. - This dataset was generated for our work "Shape and symmetry determine two-dimensional melting transitions of hard regular polygons". The dataset includes simulation results for 13 different polygons (equilateral triangles through regular tetradecagons and the 4-fold pentille) at a variety of packing fractions near the isotropic fluid to solid phase transition. Each trajectory contains the final 4 frames of each simulation run we conducted at system sizes of over one million particles. For each shape, there is a JSON file that describes the vertices of the polygon and a number of simulation trajectory files in GSD ( https://bitbucket.org/glotzer/gsd) format. The trajectory files contain the positions and orientations of all the polygons at each frame, along with the simulation box size. The trajectory file names identify the packing fraction of that simulation run.

Then in the lower left corner, one reads “1111 of 18686 records found”. Much more sophisticated exploration can be carried out by downloading the rich and flexible Access Database. The terms used for this database were described in detail in three sections of Deep Blue paper associated with this project. The database can be downloaded and explored. HOW TO USE THE ACCESS DATABASE 1. Click on the Create Cohort and View Math Trait Data button, and select your cohort by clicking on the features of interest (for example: Apron and Blouse). - ABSTRACT: We present a statistical study of interchange injections in Saturn's inner and middle magnetosphere focusing on the dependence of occurrence rate and properties on radial distance, partial pressure, and local time distribution. Events are evaluated from over the entirety of the Cassini mission’s equatorial orbits between 2005 and 2016. We identified interchange events from CHarge Energy Mass Spectrometer (CHEMS) H+ data using a trained and tested automated algorithm, which has been compared with manual event identification for optimization. We provide estimates of interchange based on intensity, which we use to investigate current inconsistencies in local time occurrence rates. This represents the first automated detection method of interchange, estimation of injection event intensity, and comparison between interchange injection survey results. We find the peak rates of interchange occur between 7 - 9 Saturn radii and that this range coincides with the most intense events as defined by H+ partial particle pressure. We determine that nightside occurrence dominates as compared to the dayside injection rate, supporting the hypothesis of an inversely dependent instability growth rate on local Pedersen ionospheric conductivity. Additionally, we observe a slight preference for intense events on the dawn side, supporting a triggering mechanism related to large-scale injections from downtail reconnection. Our observed local time dependence paints a dynamic picture of interchange triggering due to both the large-scale injection driven process and ionospheric conductivity. Within this repository we provide a readme file (description of data file and usage) and the event list provided as a .txt file. The event list includes start and stop times, comparison to previous surveys, and the average location of events identified. The purpose of the study was to demonstrate the first-ever simultaneous brain-control of two independent groups of fingers in one hand with some analysis of cortical tuning to finger movements in nonhuman primates. This advises future brain-machine interfaces for the control of finger movements with humans. All of the data is contained in .mat files, which can be commonly opened by Matlab and the Python scipy library. - This data is a subset of the data used to generate figures similar to figures 1, 2, 3, and 4 in Nason et al., 2020, Nature Biomedical Engineering. The purpose of the study was to demonstrate the benefits of using spiking band power, a low-power but single unit specific recording signal, for brain-machine interfaces with nonhuman primates with the potential to impact low-power brain-machine interfaces with humans. All of the data is contained in .mat files, which can be commonly opened by Matlab and the Python scipy library.

- Rotating Magnetic Field (RMF) thrusters are a form of electrodeless plasma propulsion. This technology is a low maturity but potentially enabling candidate for high-power in-space propulsion for use with alternative propellants. The purpose of the data here, and the associated publication is to evaluate the phenomenological efficiency modes for this thruster test article to explain and understand its overall efficiency. These modes include divergence, power coupling, mass utilization, and plasma/acceleration efficiency. Additional time-resolved measurements of the internal plasma properties were performed using a triple Langmuir probe to evaluate energy loss processes within the thruster.

- As part of the Flaring & Fossil Fuels: Uncovering Emissions & Losses (F3UEL) project, the aircraft measurement platform sampled downwind of flares in the Permian and Eagle Ford regions of Texas (2020) and the Bakken in North Dakota (2021). Estimates of methane destruction removal efficiency are calculated for each airborne intercept of a flare combustion plume based on the observed enhancements of carbon dioxide and methane, along with assumptions about the flare gas composition. Locations provided are the GPS coordinates for the aircraft sampling, not of the upwind flare infrastructure on the ground. Attempts to link the airborne sampling locations to ground infrastructure using the provided wind information (measured at the aircraft), should take care to account for complexities of transport in the atmosphere.

- Fossil energy production, processing, flaring, and transmission all can harm climate and air quality by emitting greenhouse gases and air pollutants. Studies now show that onshore oil and gas production emit much more methane than what is inventoried, and that local air quality impacts can be significant, however, natural gas flaring and offshore systems have been largely overlooked. The F3UEL (Flaring & Fossil Fuels: Uncovering Emissions & Losses) project aims to address these gaps by improving our understanding of offshore emissions, characterizing how flares behave in the real world, identifying what portion of the offshore system is responsible for emissions, and determining how such systems can be monitored. Spanning three years (2020-2022), the project employed an aircraft platform to measure including both greenhouse gas and air quality measurements. To sample the largest regions of current and potential future offshore production and flaring, airborne measurements targeted the Gulf of Mexico, offshore California and Alaska, the Bakken Formation (North Dakota) and the Permian and Eagle Ford Basins (Texas). Data provided here includes the airborne measurements collected using Scientific Aviation’s Mooney aircraft platform, equipped with spectroscopic instrumentation to measure methane, carbon dioxide, water vapor, nitrous oxide, and nitrogen oxide, in addition to meteorological variables such as wind speed and direction. Data products from our analysis of these airborne measurements are also provided, including estimated flare destruction removal efficiency for the Bakken, Eagle Ford, and Permian basins. Each data file is in .csv format and is accompanied by a readme file with further information and descriptors of the variables included. - As part of a project to develop side impact test procedures for evaluating wheelchairs, wheelchair tiedowns and occupant restraint systems (WTORS), and vehicle-based occupant protection systems for wheelchair seating stations, we created validated finite element (FE) models to support procedure development. Models were constructed using LS-DYNA. Dynamic sled tests were performed to validate the FE models of surrogate fixtures and commercial hardware. Validated FE models were developed for the Surrogate wheelchair base (SWCB), Surrogate wheelchair for side impact (SWCSI), a manual wheelchair (Ki Mobility Catalyst 5), and a power wheelchair (Quantum Rehab Edge 2.0). Additional FE models of a heavy-duty anchor meeting the Universal Docking Interface Geometry (UDIG), surrogate four-point strap tiedowns (SWTORS), a traditional docking station, and the surrogate wall fixture were also developed.

- The eastern coastal basins of Brazil are a series of small and isolated rivers that drain directly into the Atlantic Ocean. During the Pleistocene, sea-level retreat caused by glaciations exposed the continental shelf, resulting in enlarged paleodrainages that connected rivers that are isolated today. Using Geographic Information System (GIS), we infer the distribution of these paleodrainages, and their properties for the east Brazilian coast. Here, we publicly make available the shapefiles that demonstrate the paleodrainage structure along the Brazilian coast during the largest sea-level retreats in the Pleistocene, the riverine vectors during the same period and the coastal line for a drop of -125m in the sea.

- To produce this dataset, three modes of the flywheel were tested. The first was with the flywheel off, which produced a baseline for roll without stabilization. The second mode was active stabilization with the flywheel spinning. An IMU on board took in roll in degrees. An Arduino uno used the roll angle to precess the flywheel to a degree that countered the roll. The last mode was passive stabilization with the flywheel on. Here, the precession belt was removed which allowed the flywheel to freely precess and counter the moment generated by the roll.
